Something to ponder:
History Lesson on Your Social Security Card
Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (and some older ones) didn't know this.
It's easy to check out, if you don't believe it. Be sure and show it to your family
and friends. They need a little history lesson on what's what and it doesn't matter
whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.
Social Security
Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and
Card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the
United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the
message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION was removed.
An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION"message.
Our Social Security
Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social
Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1) That participation in the Program would be
completely voluntary,
No longer Voluntary
2) That the participants would only have to pay
1% of the first $1,400 of their annual
incomes into the Program,
Now 7.65%
On the first $90,000.
3) That the money the participants elected to put
into the Program would be deductible from
their income for tax purposes each year,
No longer tax deductible
4) That the money the participants put in went to the
Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the
General Operating Fund, and therefore, would
only be used to fund the Social Security
Retirement Program, and no other
Government program, and,
Under Johnson the money was moved to
The General Fund and spent.
5) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed
as income.
Under Clinton & Gore
up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are
now receiving a Social Security check every month --
and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put
away -- you may be interested in the following:
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the
Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the
General Fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically
controlled House and Senate.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax
deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -----
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social
Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the
'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the
Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
Q: Which Political Party decided to start
giving annuity payments to immigrants?
(AND MY FAVORITE):
A: That's right!
Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65,
began to receive Social Security payments! The
Democratic Party gave these payments to them,
even though they never paid a dime into it!
------------ -- ------------ --------- ----- ------------ --------- ---------
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA),
the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans
want to take your Social Security away!
And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it!
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of
awareness will be planted and maybe changes will
evolve.
But it's worth a try.
How many people can YOU send this to?
Actions speak louder than bumper stickers

And yet they scare their base every election cycle by lying that the Republicans will take your SS.

I called it. When Republicans cut social security 20%, they'll blame it on Democratic policies. Or "Democratic run" cities.

Bush squandered the surplus on tax breaks and Iraq. Leave our social security alone Republicans. At least until I die. LOL.

After Biden's successes, Americans may be too sophisticated to allow government to strip away social benefits.

once people come to understand that they are 'entitled' to certain benefits, the snowball rolling down the hill has grown out of control.

Americans could be on the verge of not taking no for an answer anymore?

Sillyboob ignores the multitude of things the Dimwinger party has done to hurt SS, and shows up with his dumbass Dimtard talking points about how Republicans WILL destroy SS.

Too funny. :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg: :auiqs.jpg:

Why are you bitching about Republicans? Republicans didn't cut SS 20%, democrats cut SS 20% by NOT fixing it.

Democrats just had the WH, Senate, and House for 2-years and didn't "fix" SS or Medicare.
They didn't even try, did thy? Make Republicans vote against fixing SS & Medicare, DUH.

That democrats didn't fix Medicare, that will be bankrupt in 2024, speaks volumes. Give all the migrants free healthcare, DUH.

Both parties have raided the fund right? That doesn't mean Democrats will be the ones who are in the majority and pass social security cuts for all. That will happen on your watch. That and you'll ban abortion. Thank you for that gift.

I'm just glad to learn that in MI, both houses are controlled by Democrats. After 40 years of gerrymandering finally we take back the control we rightfully deserve. See what happens when more people vote?

MI has a Democratic Gov, House and Senate.

Republicans figured out long ago that controlling these State Governments is more important than Federal in a lot of ways if you want to make change. MI is a great state. Manufacturing state.

Bottom line is this. You Republicans say the fund is running out of money. We all agree both sides have borrowed from the fund. So, I believe Democrats will find a way to keep funding seniors. Republicans when the fund runs out of money in 2035 will say it means we have to cut everyone's payments 20% in order to "save" the program.

You Republicans certainly won't raise taxes on the rich and corporations to fund social security and medicare. Biden will.

If you mean by "both side have borrowed from the fund" to mean that excess funds have been placed in the Social Security Trust Fund in the form of Treasury Bonds as defined by the law which has been in effect since - IIRC - 1939/1940'ish. Ya.

What does that mean? That the fund is still running out of money even though we've left IOU's?

We have a worker shortage and a baby shortage. Trump wants to pass a baby tax break to fix that problem. I don't think we have 18 years to wait for them to grow up and start working. We need more immigrants. We need more people paying into social security.

Anyways, I don't want to vote for the party who is up for making cuts to these programs. We know Republican want to cut these programs if not eliminate them altogether.

I'm not getting into shortages.

I was commenting on the facts. There is one way and ONLY ONE way for excess Social Security Funds to be handled. The law requires that any excess funds be deposited the Social Security Trust Fund and the only why to handled the excess in the Trust is to purchased Special Treasury Bills. That law has not changed in - IIRC - 83 years.

When someone says "such and such stole money from the trust fund", they are blowing smoke up your ass (pardon my French).

What happened was that the "Social Security Disability Benefits Reform Act of 1984" became law. With the leading edge of the Baby Boomer Crunch on the horizon something had to be done. So the Congress (GOP controlled Senate, DEM controlled House) passed the act signed into law by President Reagan (GOP) which increased the tax rate and started charging income tax on Social Security benefits (50% of benefits when aggregate income exceeded $25K). This caused the Trust fund to expand and the funds earned interest by being held as T-Bills.

Wow, that’s rich coming from a Republican. Do you know that your party has been trying to cut Social Security and Medicare for decades? Do you know that Trump himself proposed slashing these programs in his budget plans? Do you know that he is now attacking his own GOP rivals on Truth Social for supposedly wanting to do the same thing? Talk about hypocrisy and inconsistency. Maybe you should do some research before making such baseless claims about Democrats.
