So it doesn't appear as though he's going to be liable for anything. The worst that happens is he loses his house and his credit is fucked.

That's this generation's theme, they are not responsible for anything as there is usually someone or some entity to bail them out. An agreement or contract used to mean something but now if things get bad, some just bail on their responsibility. That is a great thing to teach the next generation.
