Fox editor advised political view on global warming

The problem with that statement is that it's bullshit. The data demonstrating that the planet has warmed during our current period is not based on data that has been called into question. That data is not a "notion", it is a fact - regardless of how much rightwing talking heads manage to intensify the "debate". One may as well debate the color of the sky.

Recent minor rises in temp over the past 20 years seem to correlate with your increased whacking off to gay Amish midget porn... so I guess it is safe to say that is a cause too... rather than the many cycles the earth goes thru and the various things that impact weather cycles

What do you have against the Amish?

That their porn takes so long to produce... takes a long time for those drawings and wood carvings... put props to their actors and actresses who have the stamina to stay in those poses while it's all being done... LOL

Gravity is also a theory, but I don't see any gravity-deniers jumping off the top of Fox news HQ.

Absurd.. there's ample empirical evidence that if you drop something, it falls. The evidence that man evolved from a simple molecular structure does not exist.. although I believe it to be more plausible than some chick and a dude miraculously appearing with leaves over their genitals.

Good grief.

Hundreds of thousand of fossil records are not empirical evidence?

Good Grief

Yes, they're evidence of fossils. Unless you have fossil records that show the unbroken chain of mankind's development from primordial ooze to homosapien?

My point is that advocating wholesale changes in our lifestyles and economies to address a calamity that cannot be proven to exist is crazy. As I stated earlier.. I've been hearing this stuf for 50 years.... life goes on ... it gets a little colder some years, a little warmer others.

Calm the fuck down.

Perhaps the precautionary principle should apply here until we know for sure...

And I'm not excited, so I find no need to calm down.

It was a general statement.. not directed at you personally.

WOW, what a scandal!

“Given the controversy over the veracity of climate change data,” Sammon wrote, “we should refrain from asserting that the planet has warmed (or cooled) in any given period without IMMEDIATELY pointing out that such theories are based upon data that critics have called into question. It is not our place as journalists to assert such notions as facts, especially as this debate intensifies.”

Can you explain to us in terms that we can understand why Al Gore bought ocean front property in Malibu? :eusa_whistle:

He didn't. He bought in Santa Barbara. To the best of my knowledge, there are no homes on the beach in Santa Barbara. Most overlook the ocean from the cliffs.

document your claim

I assume you are talking to me:

What happened to global warming?

This headline may come as a bit of a surprise, so too might that fact that the warmest year recorded globally was not in 2008 or 2007, but in 1998.

But it is true. For the last 11 years we have not observed any increase in global temperatures.

And our climate models did not forecast it, even though man-made carbon dioxide, the gas thought to be responsible for warming our planet, has continued to rise.

So what on Earth is going on?

and

Satellite temperature measurements have been obtained from the troposphere since late 1978. By comparison, the usable balloon (radiosonde) record begins in 1958 but has less geographic coverage and is less uniform.

Note that the records commonly called the "satellite temperature record" are of the lower- or mid-tropospheric temperatures, not surface temperatures. Satellites can also measure surface (skin) temperatures; see below.

Satellites do not measure temperature. They measure radiances in various wavelength bands, which must then be mathematically inverted to obtain indirect inferences of temperature.[1][2] The resulting temperature profiles depend on details of the methods that are used to obtain temperatures from radiances. As a result, different groups that have analyzed the satellite data have obtained different temperature trends. Among these groups are Remote Sensing Systems (RSS) and the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH). Furthermore the satellite series is not fully homogeneous - it is constructed from a series of satellites with similar but not identical instrumentation. The sensors deteriorate over time, and corrections are necessary for satellite drift in orbit. Particularly large differences between reconstructed temperature series occur at the few times when there is little temporal overlap between successive satellites, making intercalibration difficult.

To compare to the trend from the surface temperature record (approximately +0.07 °C/decade over the past century and +0.17 °C/decade since 1979) it is most appropriate to derive trends for the part of the atmosphere nearest the surface, i.e., the lower troposphere. Doing this, through July 2010:

apparently you and truthmatters have problems with the truth

AT THE TIME....this is what they advised because at the time it was called into question

the year isn't over

For the first six months of the year, 2010 has been warmer than the first half of 1998, the previous record holder, by 0.03 degree Fahrenheit, said Jay Lawrimore, chief of climate analysis at the federal National Climatic Data Center.

Period of a El Nino weather pattern is being blamed for the hot temperatures globally.

and your own article only claims that the first half was .03 degrees warmer than the first half of 98, and not because of global warming, but due to El Nino.

The Space and Science Research Center reported:
The Space and Science Research Center (SSRC), the leading independent research organization in the United States on the subject of the next climate change, issues today the following warning of imminent crop damage expected to produce food and ethanol shortages for the US and Canada:
Over the next 30 months, global temperatures are expected to make another dramatic drop even greater than that seen during the 2007-2008 period. As the Earth’s current El Nino dissipates, the planet will return to the long term temperature decline brought on by the Sun’s historic reduction in output, the on-going “solar hibernation.” In follow-up to the specific global temperature forecast posted in SSRC Press Release 4-2009, the SSRC advises that in order to return to the long term decline slope from the current El Nino induced high temperatures, a significant global cold weather re-direction must occur. According to SSRC Director John Casey, “The Earth typically makes adjustments in major temperature spikes within two to three years. In this case as we cool down from El Nino, we are dealing with the combined effects of this planetary thermodynamic normalization and the influence of the more powerful underlying global temperature downturn brought on by the solar hibernation. Both forces will present the first opportunity since the period of Sun-caused global warming period ended to witness obvious harmful agricultural impacts of the new cold climate. Analysis shows that food and crop derived fuel will for the first time, become threatened in the next two and a half years. Though the SSRC does not get involved with short term weather prediction, it would not be unusual to see these ill-effects this year much less within the next 30 months.”

Classic TM, post links to articles that actually refute her own claims, while claiming they support her claims.

The Cryosphere Today, a website run by the University of Illinois. The website shows images of the record ice cap growth this year in Antarctica.
The Cryosphere Today reported:
The Southern Hemisphere sea ice area narrowly surpassed the previous historic maximum of 16.03 million sq. km to 16.17 million sq. km. The observed sea ice record in the Southern Hemisphere (1979-present) is not as long as the Northern Hemisphere. (meaning it has not been tracked as long as the North Pole) Prior to the satellite era, direct observations of the Southern Hemisphere sea ice edge were sporadic.

This is another view of the record ice cap growth.

This chart shows the Southern Hemisphere sea ice area in square kilometers from 1978 to today.

Residents in Argentina and Brazil are wondering if this winter will ever end. Buenos Aires recorded this Thursday (November 15th) the lowest November temperature in 90 years. Temperature in the Downtown weather station reached 2.5C. Since records began more than a century ago, only two days had colder lows in November. It was in 1914 (1.6) and 1917 (2.4). And ninety years ago the urban heat island effect was much less pronounced than nowadays. In Brazil’s southernmost province Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil temperatures fell to 2.3C. In Sao Joaquim Monday’s (Nov., 12) the temperature was -1.2 C with frost.

Fox editor urged climate skepticism - Keach Hagey - POLITICO.com

Fox News Washington managing editor Bill Sammon sent an e-mail to staff last December offering guidance on how to handle the climate debate, three weeks after the Climategate scandal broke and in the midst of the Copenhagen climate summit.

Year old news? How desparate are you?

For 5 years in a row you nuts have claimed that hurrican season will be brutal this year. In one of them it was mild, nearly a record low, and the rest were average at best.

But that won't stop you fools from picking and choosing "facts"

Polar bears are dying b/c the ice is melting - they are thriving and the ice sheet is growing.
The planet will become desertified - no out of the normal growth.
The predictions of 10 years ago come up WAY short.
Last year was the hottest year ever! Bull shit, that the weather, not global warming that leads to global cooling oops that's too stoopud, lets call it climate change, maybe they won't notice that the climate changes.

fyi; The sky is not falling. ya fearmonger.

The Guardian reported:
Snow fell on Baghdad today for the first time in living memory, delighting residents who declared it an omen of peace.
“It is the first time we’ve seen snow in Baghdad,” said 60-year-old Hassan Zahar. “We’ve seen sleet before, but never snow. I looked at the faces of all the people, they were astonished.
“A few minutes ago, I was covered with snowflakes. In my hair, on my shoulders. I invite all the people to enjoy peace, because the snow means peace.”
Murtadha Fadhil, who works for the traffic police, huddled under a balcony to keep dry, and declared the snow “a new sign of the new Iraq”.
He said the phenomenon was a sign of hope and purity. “We hope Iraqis will purify their hearts and politicians will work for the prosperity of all Iraqis,” he said.
