Light hydrocarbons are a product of the basic elements of organic chemistry (CHON) plus heat and pressure. These fairly simple molecules are like building blocks for the comparatively complex molecules that make up the amalgam that we call crude oil. It takes life to build chemical complexity beyond a certain point.

No shit, Sherlock. The oil companies have thousands of wells that are already in place. They merely need to wait and they can pump them again.

This is correct. There's a lot of oil out there but the problem for US producers is the price of oil. It's too low to make extraction profitable. We already pumped out all the easy oil before most of us were born.
