When I was part of the Security Force at Newport RI, all members were armed, and not only were there several patrols roaming the base (2 personnel in a car), there were also 2 armed guards at each gate. Response time at Newport when I was there was 2 min. or less.

Its so ridiculous to have military bases "gun free"...I never will understand that...What do we do now days...hand out weapons as we get off the boat in a theater of war?....When I served the only place on base you couldn't be armed was in Church or a night club....we carried our rifles and side arms in cases through airports...our leaders trusted our training...I guess that is not possible with today's troops....or their training...
