Florida lawmakers bucked the National Rifle Association on Wednesday to pass new firearms regulations and create a program for arming some school employees in a rare act of Republican compromise on the divisive issue of gun violence.

The response to the slayings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., signaled a major shift for a state known as a legal laboratory for gun rights activists. It could become a blueprint for other states looking at new measures to address mass shootings.

A bipartisan vote of 67 to 50 in the state House ended an emotional three-week process, during which the state’s legislative leadership toured the bloodstained hallways at the high school and thousands of students marched on the state capitol in Tallahassee to demand change.

After weeks of debate, lawmakers approved a bill that would impose a three-day waiting period for most purchases of long guns and raise the minimum age for purchasing those weapons to 21. The legislation also includes millions of dollars to improve school security and train and arm school employees.

seems reasonable to me.

I agree. that is responsible. I'm not sure if a visit to the "blood stained school" was appropriate, however.

Too bad they had to wait for 17 kids to die to decide to take action. That would have been better than the memorial they plan to build now.

“Neither the 3-day waiting period on all rifles and shotguns, raising the age from 18 to 21 to buy any firearm, or the bump stock ban will have any effect on crime,”

Probably very true. The only reason why these changes are passing is out of PUBLIC POLITICAL HEAT TO ACT. Many of these people are acting because they fear not doing so would hurt their careers. So enjoy the new gun laws. Now that they have been passed, when they too are found ineffective in stopping the next school shooting, it will just make it easier now for the gun-grabbers to demand more "action" to further uselessly curtail citizen's rights.

I guess obama and holder won't be selling ar15's to the mexicans anytime soon.

So...millions of 18-21 year olds have been buying rifles and shotguns for over 200 years, and Cruz bought his rifle a year ago.

Way to go Del...

And when the next shooting happens because of an illegal AK-47 that came across the border is used, what then? Will there be a 3 day waiting period for illegal aliens crossing the border and checked for weapons and drugs as they enter?

every gun used in a mass shooting was legally bought by someone who everyone in their life knew was a problem...

Let's deal with the real problem, not hypotheticals, okay?

Disgusting.
Hopefully my rep didn't vote for this piece of crap.
If he did we will need to find a primary opponent for him.
