Florida House prices dropping as people desperate to sell.

In response to this trend DeSantis has of course spent most of his time campaigning for President, and targeting homosexuals and their supporters. One must focus on what is really important.
True.

And it’s not just DeSantis – Republican lawmakers are likewise feckless and incompetent, focusing on ridiculous, meaningless hot-button wedge issues while the state continues its disastrous decline.

Public education is among the worst in the country, teachers are leaving the state in droves, and nothing is being done about the homeowners’ insurance crisis.

Well ... that was pretty easy to fact check.

First the link.

According to the article, 202,000 homeowners are described as “motivated” to sell their homes. Motivated means they really need to sell it. And they need to sell it fast.

There are more “Motivated” sellers in Florida than any other state. And it is not surprising. Insurance costs have skyrocketed. Rising more than 100% in the last couple years. And expected to continue rising.

And yet it's SO bad in liberal cities elsewhere that people are flocking to Florida DESPITE the skyrocketing insurance! Can you imagine how many would be coming if they didn't have terrible hurricanes?

You've picked one of the various reasons in your link why people are selling. A very misleading thread, just agenda based.

Insurance companies will continue to pull out of Florida. Eventually Florida will have no option but to have the government insure homes.
What's this? A Republican turning to government for help? The free market can't fix this? Corporations can't figure this one out? Is Ron a socialist???

The more we argue about the problems with our economy where the rich keep getting richer and any time we mention the middle class doing better Republicans tell us it will just cause inflation. I'm starting to think unregulated free market capitalism is just another bad ISM. Not working. Look at the debt. And how the dollar isn't backed by anything.

Well regulated capitalism is good. When run by a government for we the people who hasn't been taken over by the rich. A middle class first government. Republicans trickle down approach isn't working. Not in Florida or California. But keep electing fake billionaires who don't pay their taxes.

If we took politics out of it, yes they need to build hurricane proof houses. My uncles home is pretty sturdy. And I've seen some multi million dollar homes on the intercoastal that can withstand a category 5. So yea, building homes higher up so they can't get flooded and sturdy enough to withstand the wind is a must moving forward.

Perhaps this needs to be socialized. Take the profit motive out of home owners insurance. Just Floridians. You pay in, everyone pays in, and if your home is ruined, the insurance company pays, if no damages, the money goes into a trust and invested so it makes money because one day a natural disaster is going to ruin a lot of homes and the fund has to have funds in it. Non profit. Maybe half government/half private run.
Humans love the water. The view. The barrier islands are built on to excess it seems. And they are okay until that one storm hits in a wrong way. Also, the ocean moves and takes up land. It is relentless. We have resources that pays to repair currently. That is not a guarantee forever. To move back one block from the ocean would be prudent. The costs of structures already built, and the expense invested would not. We know that some areas are facing more ocean intrusion than others. That in itself should limit new building.

Wages rising do not cause inflation.
My dad says every time he's ever seen minimum wage increases or any time everyone gets a cost of living increase, he sees prices magically go up at the supermarket and gas pumps.

I think wages going up causes inflation. If inflation means the price of things go up. Corporations are at fault. They do it. To maximize profits. If we suddenly have more money they suddenly see a way to increase profits. So it's not the raises fault it's corporate America.

And same goes for the cost of oil going down. If that saves car manufacturers money, they don't pass that on to the consumers. They may pass on cost increases but not discounts.

This is why I HATED Economics. I'm smarter than Econ 101. All the rules. I always said "not necessarily"

We cannot look to the corporations to do the right thing. They don't exist to help better the nation. It's not their job to help society. It never has been never will be. At their basic level they exist only to make a profit even if it detracts from the nation.

I say the government handles the insurance and they can outsource to private companies to do the work. First you have to show you have at least 20 employees who pay taxes. That will stop construction companies from hiring undocumented workers. If you want those government jobs you have to hire American.

The reason I love rooting against Ron and Florida is they love to root against California. They say liberals are making California too expensive for the middle class but damn if that isn't happening in Florida too.

My uncle bought his home in Florida for $150,000 it's worth $1 million now. Now he can't afford to insure it. Go figure. Time to get out of Florida. Go to Texas. Isn't that what Republicans tell Californians who can't afford to live in CA?
Covid BS jacked up prices every where. Hurricanes and inflation caused this. Not the Stupidity of the left Politicians in Cali.

This shit was caused by govts shutting down the world causing inflation from hell.

Prices for homes doubled and tripled and everyone rose prices because of it.

Its not just housing its fast food, beef, hell everything. I remember Subway $5 foot long, now its $13 and with tip and tax $16 sandwich.

ONLY GOVT can do this. And they are doubling down to the War machine to a WEF RESET.

Climate mitigation, hardening public infrastructure, maybe some work with the insurers themselves, Many things might help, but he is doing nothing at all.

If you believe that GLOBAL climate change is the problem with insurance problems in Florida how would Florida go about mitigating GLOBAL climate change to solve that problem exactly? Can you walk us through that?
