VIII Amendment

Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.

XVIII Amendment

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

In addition to the following, I posted messages about involuntary servitude cases since they first hit the news:

The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled that the First Amendment does not protect the owners of a photography studio who refused, because of their Christians beliefs, to serve a lesbian couple.

Judges order Christians to work for ‘gays’

This case is another example of Socialists in government trying to legislate love. Put the homosexual aspect of the case aside and ask yourself where judges get the authority to dictate behavior?

Judges Edward Chavez, Petra Jimenez Maes, Charles Daniels, Barbara Vigil and Richard Bosson told Elaine and Jonathan Huegeunin who they must work for. That is an extension of the income tax. In effect, the income tax forces every productive American to work for the parasite class. It matters not what the lesbians happen to be, those judges went beyond the income tax when they ordered the Huegeunins to work for people they did not want to work for. Carry the court’s philosophy to its logical conclusion and the government can order anyone to work at anything. Go further and nobody will be allowed to quit a job.

Put the issue in perspective with one question: Did the government (Nazis) have the Right to order Picasso to paint their point of view rather than Guernica?

Howard Roark in The Fountainhead defends against the very people trying to enslave through court-ordered forced labor in today’s world. Ayn Rand demolished collectivism as surely as Roark demolished his building. Rand was infinitely more dramatic than not baking a cake, but the principle is the same:

NOTE: The Elane Photography case is being fought on First Amendment grounds. That’s okay, but I think the XIII Amendment is the way to go because it protects every individual when religion is not involved.

Socialism & Strangers

NOTE: The Elane Photography case was classic Socialist incrementalism:

The owners of a mom and pop bakery have just learned there is a significant price to pay for following their religious beliefs.

Aaron and Melissa Klein, the owners of Sweet Cakes By Melissa, have been ordered to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple after they refused to bake them a wedding cake in 2013.

The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry (BOLI) awarded $60,000 to Laurel Bowman-Cryer and $75,000 in damages to Rachel Bowman-Cryer for “emotional suffering.”

The Washington florist who turned away a pair of gay grooms-to-be who sought flowers for their wedding has been ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, plus $1 for court costs and fees.

Arlene’s Flowers and Gifts owner Barronelle Stutzman was given 60 days to pay Washington state for discriminating against Robert Ingersoll and Curt Freed, who officially tied the knot in 2013, the Associated Press reported.

Finally, a federal court upholding Eric Hoffer is a good start although the 5th Circuit confined its ruling to “standing”:

The ruling found that the individuals and homosexual advocacy organizations who challenged the law didn’t have standing to bring their claims.

Indiana Pizza Shop: We Won't Serve Gay Weddings

I was floored when talking heads gave so much coverage to the pizza guy. I wagered that the story would be ignored because there is not an actual pizza case in the court —— at least not YET.

The way media reported the pizza story is annoying to me because media mouths refuse to touch the 8th and the 13th Amendments in those cases that have been in the courts for several years, yet never a word was heard about involuntary servitude. Pizza reportage is no different than the other cases of involuntary servitude before it even gets to court.

Judges & Tea Party Conservatives

As far as knew, the Pizza case never got to the courts; so I looked up the outcome:
