FBI Unable To Do The Job

The FBI is the only game in town for counterterrorism. The CIA & the rest of the spook alphabet soup are headed by military or ex-military, their budgets are controlled by the Pentagon, & all their emphasis is now on supporting the war-fighter. Ironic, because the CIA was set up as a counterbalance to the military's intel outfits, but OSS & CIA were never v. effective - see Vietnam, Korean War, PRC, nuclear secrets, Bay of Pigs, fall of the Shah of Iran, & on & on. Dept. State & their intel agency are now just a sideshow in our foreign policy bigtop, with regional military comanders-in-chief, their own intel, & military aid largess to spread around.

CIA BY LAW can not operate inside the US, they had nothing to do with this debacle.

Agreed, in theory. & FBI under Hoover was not supposed to be wiretapping, running black bag ops, intercepting mail, collecting personal info for political blackmail, & on & on. Yah, CIA is/was supposed to hand-off to FBI when foreign targets cross borders into the US, & picked up again when they left. We know how well that worked up until 09/11, & FBI is still working on getting into the electronic age.

FBI is improving, but it still needs more time. The worry is that the clock is ticking, & the time to the next mass outrage - I don't count the Boston Marathon, they seemed to be more about causing injuries than mass deaths (no disrespect to the dead & wounded nor their families; their suffering is too real) - is coming due.

There's no "of course" about it. The FBI is the only domestic counterintel agency we have, & they're learning. But it's a steep & exhausting learning curve. Good agents have resigned from exhaustion or died or suicided in the interim. & they're STILL bringing the Internet & related firewalls, data sharing, etc. to FBI desktops.

The FBI might have been able to pinpoint the original 09/11 terror, but they were too fragmented in data structure, & each regional office guarded their own secrets. With actual data sharing among the civilian & military spook agencies, we probably could have prevented 09/11, or even rolled up the nets.

It's been an expensive lesson, & it's not clear that we've learned all the lessons yet.

Why not get smart? And hire all the brilliant minds on the Conspiracy Theory forums to do the investigative work for the govt. It seems they can find every little single connection, like needles in haystacks. Nobody would get past their screening, they'd find every hitch!

This is kind of off topic but really not. Why didn't the FBI release the good photos of these guys in the first place? The ones they released to the public at first were crappy, the ones that are all over the net now are clear as day. What gives?

The FBI is nothing more than another gigantic federal bureaucracy that depends on myths and hype to slurp up their share of the taxpayer dollar trough. The Hussein administration has the federal enforcement covered with the appointment of the notorious crooked A.G. who controls the FBI.
