Favorite Songs With a Message

Lots of songs have meaning.

Sometimes the meaning is unclear.
Thats very true. Sometimes I like the unclear ones. I find the song a puzzle to decode.

Many of the songs by the band Weezer have very well crafted lyrics that convey messages in the song, but can seem unclear. I guess that is why I always loved the band Weezer so much.

I always enjoyed "Undone - The Sweater song" by Weezer. Some could interpret the message as going insane and completely losing it. Others could interpret the message as relationships failing and becoming undone.

What are you favorite songs that seemed to have a strong message the singer/band was trying to convey ?

It seems some of my favorite songs seem to be conveying a strong message the singer/band is trying to get across. Here is my list of songs:

Say It Ain't So - Weezer
American Pie - Don McLean
Imagine - John Lenin
Your Going Go Far Kid - The Offspring
Hotel California - The Eagles
The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia - Vicki Lawrence
Under Pressure - Queen & David Bowie
The Sound of Silence - Simon & Garfunkel
Gimmie Shelter - The Rolling Stones
Los Angeles is Burning - Bad Religion
This Land is Your Land - Woodie Guthrie
We Didn't Start the Fire - Billy Joel

Galveston-Glenn Campbell

I always enjoyed the message in the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. We should live life and not fear death. I always took the song almost as a religious experience. I would listen to it and think of Psalms 23:4.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Can I ask what it is that you mean by this? Back in the 90's Mary-Chapin Carpenter was one of the good ones, at least in my own opinion that is. I love her duet with the late and legendary Joe Diffie.

God bless you and his family and Mary always!!!

Holly

P.S. I also love her songs named "I'm Going Out Tonight" and "If You Just Let Me Into Your Heart".

Is there any song more tragic than Jim Croce's "NY is not my home"?
A song he composed in his mind literally while driving back home from New York City to his home in PA.
Croce and his wife basically gave up on his music career after tirelessly trying to promote it.
Tragically he died in a plane crash ONE day before his 3rd album was released that propelled him to stardom after his death. His first two albums barely got him noticed.
So he never knew his fame.

Things were spinnin' 'round me
And all my thoughts were cloudy
And I had begun to doubt all the things that were me
Been in so many places
You know I've run so many races
I looked into the empty faces of the people of the night
Somethin' is just not right
'Cause I know that I've gotta get outta here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get outta here
'Cause New York's not my home
Though, all the streets are crowded
There's somethin' strange about it
I lived there 'bout a year and I never once felt at home
I thought I'd make the big time
I learned a lot of lessons awfully quick
And now I'm tellin' you that they were not the nice kind
It's been so long since I have felt fine
That's the reason that I've gotta get outta here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get outta here
'Cause New York's not my home
That's the reason that I've gotta get outta here
I'm so alone
Don't you know that I gotta get outta here
'Cause New York's not my home
