Families Outraged After Illinois Fails to Pay Out $288 Million in Lottery Winnings

The lottery is a rip off..
The lottery is NOT a rip off. Most big games cost $1

now screw off

bugger off

go fly a kite -- in a lightning storm. take your chances

The cost of a something doesn't determine whether it's a ripoff or not. If you put $1.00 in a vending machine and nothing comes out, everyone understands you've been ripped off.

You are a special kind of stupid.
State lotteries are a bargain. Everyone who posses a winning ticket will collect on those winnings.

How is paying out half of the proceeds a "bargain?" Casinos payout something like 95% of the money bet at the table. When lotteries were illegal and run by organized crime, they paid out 95% of the proceeds. The state government is a bigger crook than the Mafia.

Would think all the proceeds go into some kind of trust so payouts can happen. Where'd all that money go?

Well you see that's the problem with Government... In the evil privet sector people can and do go to jail, in the Public sector we get told we're greedy, small government, wanna see children starve in the streets, no HC for anyone primates for asking why the money was stolen.

Unless it's a republican controlled government... then it's you're closet homosexuals who rob the needy and help the rich.... with lottery money, in this case.

Honestly though, just look at Obama VS Bush, same policies, same deficit spending, same wars, same bail outs for the rich... One evil and one is the most perfect man ever created by god... I mean evolution.
Governments are NOT private businesses.

end of story

So that means they can steal?

That's all you're saying, it's OK for government to steal.

That is so beautifully liberal!
no matter how many times you insist they are --
Taxes are not theft

No matter how many times you deny it, they fit the definition of theft to a 'T.'

It isn't "Responsible money management". It is outright theft. Would you be okay with a casino withholding winnings because they had fucked up their "money management?

In fact, it is common for casinos to do so.
No they do not. If a casino arbitrarily withholds winnings the license can be suspended or revoked.
And let's suppose the Mirage in Vegas decided to randomly do this. How long do you think it would take for the word to get out that the Mirage was ripping off winning players by not paying them? And how long after that would the Mirage casino floor be devoid of players?
Think a bit before you post.

Who said anything about randomly or arbitrarily?
What else would it be but a capricious decision to simply not pay off the winners.
What the fuck are we talking about here?.

Poker star Phil Ivey wins $11.5 million, but casino refuses to pay

Atlantic City casino refuses to pay out $1.5M jackpot, claims deck of unshuffled cards to blame

Patrons and Casinos Dispute Winnings, Involve Courts

Casino Won’t Pay Gambling Grandma Her $42M Winnings From Slots
So....I read the stuff in your link.....Ivey's companion was in violation of casino rules. Certainly this is legitimate....
The Golden nugget thing was another rules issue. The cards were not properly shuffled. Again, this is in no way a comparison to the issue in Illinois
IN the Foxwoods incident, the players were in the opinion of the CT gaming laws and the casino, in violation of gaming rules.
Your comparisons are unrelated to the nature of the Illinois government's capricious decision to withhold legitimately won prizes.
End of story.

Indubitably you made it abundantly clear on the arbitrary :blahblah:

I did. IN response to a comment you made.

Theft is taking something a person values without his permission. Taxation definitely meets the definition.
Citizens have a compact. Taxation is agreed to before hand

thanx for playing
No..Taxation is forced under the threat of government sanctions.
Hey dumb shit! We live in a representative democracy. We agree to tax ourselves. Unlike the colonials of America, we have direct representation

Did y'all go to school with Jethro Bodine?

Dante is grasping at straws here.

Watch, now lottery proceeds will be deemed a tax.... and you will not be entitled to winnings.

Liberals are some of the biggest crooks ever... who are these rubes that keep falling for this shit?

Was the name calling really necessary?
Agree?.....No...We were just told to pay taxes...or else.
So to use your logic. Agreement. An agreement is only valid when two or more consenting adults of sound mind come to an understanding that an exchange would be made with certain stipulations.
If that agreement becomes no longer enforceable or if one of the parties attempts to change the terms of the agreement without consent of the other, the agreement is null and void.
With that in mind, tell me, we'll pick anyone at random.....Let's say Dante.....Dante does not like the fact that the bulb on the streetlight near his home has not been changed out for months. He's concerned for a number of reasons. He protests to the officials at the town hall. Nothing has been done. Now, you say we agreed to pay taxes. Well, it seems to me that the town is in breach of the agreement. Can Dante withhold his tax dollars and not fear the retribution of government sanctions? Of course not. Even though the town has breached its part of the "agreement" the town can still BY LAW enforce the "agreement"....
So you explain how this is an "agreement".
And do you think you can do this without name calling?

You're speaking crazy/ We live in a representative democracy. If you don't like the SYSTEM be honest and say so, but you can't.

Why can't you? Because you have NO solutions other than ranting and raving about what people over 250 years ago wrote. Those aren't arguments for change. They are whines about reality.

When it comes to taxation the government is not in breach of an agreement. That's mental illness speaking. How we are taxed, how much we are taxed are the issues. The remedies for any complaints are elections.

Your problem and the problem with people like you is are unable to convince your fellow citizens that you are correct and have a workable plan. Screaming revolt and screeching throw the bums out may make people like you feel good, but they are not solutions

Nope. A man can only deal with so much insanity before he must let loose. People like you do nothing more than piss in the community pool and then complain the pool smells funny, or looks funny...

You get the fuck out, asshole. Go find a country where you can enjoy being looted and following orders. There's one exactly to your liking 80 miles from Florida.
