Enter the Age of Censorship, FCC circumvents Congress to classify internet as Public Utility

Yeah, right, and you have a company that earns $100 million/yr, and I'm the queen of England.

So you're picture is on/was on the $20.00?
When are you going to name the subsidies ISPs receive?

What does this have to do with your believing you're the Queen of England? Try to stick to one point of discussion.

You're the one who's trying to change the subject, moron. Now answer the question you've been dodging. You said ISPs are subsidized. Name the subsidies.

The Internet was the commercialization of the work done at DOD,

False.

The Internet began with DARPA, but the commercialization didn't make it the Internet anymore than McDonald's made the I-10 a freeway.

A stupid claim that undermines any credibility the piece might otherwise have.

and by most accounts, Gore’s efforts had some impact. He was the prime sponsor of the 1991 High-Performance Computing and Communications Act, generally known as the Gore bill, which allocated $600 million for high-performance computing. Gore, who waged a two-year battle to get the bill passed, popularized the term “the Information Superhighway.”

The Gore legislation helped fund the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, where the Mosaic Web browser was first developed by a team of programmers that included Netscape founder Marc Andreessen. While it is sometimes difficult to pinpoint the impact of federal funding, Andreessen said Gore’s bill made a difference during a 2000 interview with the Industry Standard: “If it had been left to private industry, it wouldn’t have happened, at least, not until years later.”

A cautionary tale for politicians Al Gore and the invention of the Internet - The Washington Post

Regardless, Gore bragged that he created the Internet - he didn't. He lied.

DARPA was an agency of the DOD.

Before Al Gore's took the legislative initiative, networking was either proprietary or dial up (300 BAUD Modems anyone?)

He didn't lie. (Nor did Ms. Palin)

Now hold up here.. why shouldn't there be some form of censorship on the net? The kids are using it for school and all sorts of things now. Do you want them stumbling across a porn site or reading about all the crap that drives adults crazy? why does everyone look at one little aspect of things and hone in on it. We need to think about the bigger picture.

Let's not play stupid, okay?

I'm an MCSE with 35 years experience, you can't bullshit me.

Gore had zero impact on network speeds. The 1991 bill opened the Internet up to commercial use - which was a good thing. It did nothing to change the backbone, did nothing to change connection technology, It was nothing more than an inevitable piece of legislation making the Internet open to more than research.

I haven't been dodging anything. ALL ISP's are telecommunication companies. Google: 'telecommunication subsides' and you'll have your list.

The rule has nothing to do with censorship. It has to do with charges.

The rule is how much an ISP can charge for something they get for free.

That's correct, Rick. And welcome to USMB. The idea of "gummint censorship" was merely one of the paranoia comic book fantasies the OP author is notorious for. When challenged for some basis on what the hell he was talking about, he ran away and hid, which is what he always does.

As for the kids and the dregs of the internet, I'm afraid that ship sailed some time ago. It's understandable to worry about the internet's effect on kids -- but after spending some time on sites like this I think a bigger concern is its effect on adults.

Yeah but we can still look out for future generations and maybe reverse what has been done. everything seems to get twisted, picked apart, manipulated and if what is being put out there isn't corrected it creates all kinds of panic and paranioa... then everyone gets crap stuck in their head and don't listen to what is actually being said.. we need to have clear, free, and open minds that are not impacted by our subconcious from the past.

So where is the list of subsidies you have been attempt to avoid providing?

True dat. Well I do my part here, as do many others, and it's a full time job setting the records straight after historical revisionists get done with their endless rewrites. Frankly I think that does far more harm than kids finding porn. So again welcome aboard, always good to have an additional deckhand.
