New organ donation law could save 700 more lives every year

Up to 700 more lives could be saved each year by a new organ donation system which will aim to tackle donor shortages.

The new plan shifts the balance of presumption in favour of organ donation, with an opt out for those who do not wish to take part, the Department of Health and Social Care said.

The changes will be known as Max’s Law after Max Johnson, a 10-year-old boy who was saved by a heart transplant.

Currently, would-be donors must indicate their intentions on the NHS Organ Donor Register, or grieving families must make the decision if a patient’s wish to donate is unknown.

We have had this for a few years now in Wales and it is working very well. Saves the families and doctors an unpleasant experience as well.

Well in Wales they need it, what with the NHS there being worse than anywhere else, or it used to be at least. I knew the daughter of the woman in charge of it all in the Welsh assembly, useless, former trade union too.

Its a mixed bag.
Fact or Fiction? The Welsh NHS performs poorly compared to the English NHS
I actually knew the woman in charge of it a few years back. She was ok.

The Hart woman? She was okay, but she wasn't actually that good at running her stuff.

If you trust the NHS to keep accurate data you’re even more stupid than I thought.

And no, it’s not acceptable for them to feel free to harvest your organs unless you’ve remembered to inform them otherwise, and they’ve maintained an accurate record.

Do you have any idea how many people have missed things such as cancer screening because the NHS cannot keep accurate records?

No it isn’t:

In Wales, where opt-out has been the norm since 2015, the supply of donors has increased only marginally.

'Changing the organ donation system to an opt-out approach was long overdue, but it’ll save countless lives'

Anyone who trusts the NHS in this matter is an imbecile.

Organs of 50 NHS donors are sold to foreigners who pay £75,000 for each operation

Organs from British NHS donors are being given to private foreign patients ahead of desperately-ill Britons, it was revealed last night.

Some 50 livers were given to patients from Cyprus, Greece and other countries last year, even though 259 British patients were waiting for life-saving transplants.

The figures, uncovered by freedom of Information requests, triggered outrage. ...

Organs removed from dead patients without family consent after NHS blunder
By SOPHIE BORLAND FOR THE DAILY MAIL
UPDATED: 01:28, 12 April 2010

Hundreds of thousands of people have been caught up in an astonishing NHS blunder that saw organs being taken from dead patients and used without their consent.

Donors who expressly stated they did not want certain body parts taken after their death had their details changed so their records showed any of their organs could be removed.

Now more than 21 bereaved families will be contacted by health officials to be told the disturbing news that tissue was mistakenly taken from their loved ones.

The error, which affected 800,000 people, happened when details concerning the body parts that donors do not want to be removed was deleted from the NHS Organ Donor Register...

No, never met her.I worked on a project with another Minister before she was a Minister and she was sound. Labour in Wales have screwed up the NHS. They are basically Blairite remnants and intent on privatisation. Free prescriptions is correct but I live in the borders and our pharmacies are chocka with people coming over from Shropshire for free prescriptions. I doubt it will get any better either side of the border until the tories are removed.
Speed the day.

Why dont you opt out then ?
As usual you don’t seem to get it.
The people above opted out, what good did it do them?

The NHS is notoriously bad at data management and record keeping, and the opting out scheme has resulted in barely any positive change in Wales.

In Some South American countries it has resulted in a drastic reduction in people consenting to be organ donors as it is viewed as an affront for the government to assume they can harvest whatever bits they like from you unless you’ve said otherwise and assuming one can even trust that accurate records will be kept.

I suspect the same will happen here.

If you opt out then you should be excluded from any benefits from the scheme.Thats only fair aint it.

So you have nothing to say about the issues I’ve raised, even though it’s your OP - in which you got practically everything wrong.
Great - keep showing what a retard you are, it’s fun :iyfyus.jpg:
