Employers as Peeping Toms

From the article:
"My niece is a lesbian," he said. "She's a school teacher. Her employment shouldn't be affected with that. We should have a law that says that, not just the good graces of wherever you work."

I actually fully agree with LN about keeping government out of our personal lives...to the greatest extent possible. That should apply not only to our sexual preferences and gender identification, however. It should also be equally applied to our religious choices, among other things. The flip side of this is, there are public venues where our personal choices should not be open for our public audience to view. In other words, you can be LGBT, or muslim, or christian, or any other personal preference of lifestyle you desire, and you should be free of government or public scrutiny...as long as you do not publically display or otherwise make an issue of who, or what, you choose to be. A lesbian teacher can quite comfortably keep her sexual preference private. A transgender individual, not so much. While some men can pass as women or some women pass as men by their appearance, many others can not. Therefore, theirs becomes an open public display of private matters. In that case, the public, through government, now has the freedom to voice their support or objection to displayed personal choices.
Especially in schools, we need to work to remove politics and politically charged issues and focus more on educational fundamentals. Let's get education back on track and focus on reading, mathematics, science, and communications skills. Guaranteed, an intelligently educated child will certainly develop the wherewithal to make his/her own choices and to respect others.
