"WASHINGTON (AP) — Heart-clogging trans fats were once a staple of the American diet, plentiful in baked goods, microwave popcorn and fried foods. Now, mindful of the health risks, the Food and Drug Administration is getting rid of what's left of them for good."

I have to on alot of drinks as I react poorly to caffine.

Trans fats are not poisonous, nor are they deadly. they are purported to increase the RISK of heart disease, nothing more. Not worth a ban.

"Trans fats are not poisonous, nor are they deadly"?

You seem very sure of this, why?

Because I have eaten stuff that has them, and I am still here.

Increasing the risk of something does not translate to something being deadly. deadly is deadly, not risk increasing.

How long have you been here?

The foods I eat, fresh fruit and vegetables and lean meat, don't come with labels. Trans fats are largely a non issue for me.

Interesting. So, smoking isn't necessarily deadly, by that reasoning.

I'm 'addicted' to bread, and rarely am I able to pass on a donut.

Does every single person who has ever smoked a cigarette die from cigarette related reasons?

I smoke 3-5 cigars per year. By the trans-fat logic I should not be allowed to do that, because it may be harmful.

38 years.

Good luck. I'm 66 and 16 years ago a number of people I grew up with or worked with began to drop dead, usually around age 50.

Gotta love these Authoritarians - they always have a reason for crushing your freedom.

The "Food Police" are doing this for "your own good". Trans fat is "bad". Just remember; Government bureaucrats are far more qualified to make decisions about your life than you are. You are stupid and irresponsible.

Here is some free cheese, stick it in your mouth and STFU.

I know that processed foods are bad for you..but I had to look up transfats to figure out what they ARE, exactly.

Apparently, transfat is vegetable oil, that has gone through a process to solidify it...sooooo..isn't Crisco a transfat?

It was considered a healthy substitute for lard back when it became popular...but as it turns out, it's really not, and lard isn't half as bad for us as people thought it was.

I cook with liquid veggie oil, and with lard. I never even buy crisco anymore...but all those goodies that have breading and that are fried or have some sort of shortening in the ingredients...they're filled and coated with the stuff.

It's bad for you. Quit eating processed foods. As far as FDA bans, meh, I think it's fairly ridiculous. Food manufacturers should get a clue though and just stop using the crap. Use lard instead. Give the ranchers a boost! Maybe if people realize those foods have LARD in them, they will exercise a little restraint when it comes to eating them.

Or maybe not.

I don't check them because I couldn't care less. If I like the product I eat it. If I love the product I eat it a lot.

I believe labels should be voluntary.

Some manufacturers will label their products and some won't.

People can choose which one they want to buy.

I think the contents should be labeled...gosh I put the contents of the stuff I can at home on the lids, just because. I don't want to gift someone with something and have them go into anaphalactic shock, or a diabetic coma....so my beans are "beans, salt, bacon" and my applesauce is "applesauce, sugar, cinnamon".

Pickles I don't bother, I figure most adults know that pickles have various things in them, and will be intelligent enough to ask me if they have any particular allergies. "cukes turmeric dill mustard seed celery seed kosher salt sugar vinegar " won't fit on a lid.

Mmmmmmmmm!!!! If you have any that the labels fell off, send them to me.

You have a good choice made, but also add organic that is not sprayed with so much poison or GMO modification. God made everything perfect; and change is a defect.

I assume your kosher name means you are a Jew. (I am not, but worked in Israel and often go to the synagogue.) Yes, Kosher food is far more healthy, especially than pigs who eat garbage and become that way. But I just add organic that prevents additives from how God created it in the first place. Yes, bugs can eat it because the food is also healthy for them, but I would rather eat a bug than food that would poison them.
