Uber drivers are contractors, not employees, labor board says

I recently read an article complaining about the fact that (a) the Department of Labor has recently found that Uber drivers are CONTRACTORS, and not employees, and (b) the principals and founders of Uber recently made a killing with the Uber IPO, and (c) Uber is about to make changes that will reduce drivers' pay.

Lefties are up in arms about how cruel Uber is, and how they should be forced to pay the drivers "more," and to treat them as employees.

But the bottom line is this: Whether you are talking about how mean an employer is, or how cruel Republicans are for not raising the minimum wage, one fact remains. Everyone is working the BEST JOB AVAILABLE for them at the time, and if you (the Government) want to fuck with that, you will be doing more harm than good. Force Uber to treat its drivers better and Uber will inevitably go out of business. Force small companies to pay $15/hr for baseline employment, then hours and jobs will be cut in massive numbers.

Lefties seem to think that employees have no options. If they are making minimum wage, then they will continue making minimum wage until Government comes in, saves the day, and forces all employers to pay more. If they can't live on Uber earnings, then the only solution is for Government to FORCE Uber to treat them better.

No. They can get a better job. They can get married to someone with a job. They can work harder and earn more, or get promoted. They can work overtime to increase they pay. They can start their own business and get rich. It is not Government's role to ensure everyone's prosperity - and when they try to do so, they usually fuck things up worse than before.

Unemployment compensation for simply being unemployed can solve this problem. Only people who Want to work will, and employers should have fewer problems with a more motivated labor force.

Just another chapter in the meta-narrative of profitable victims. The Left expects us all to find a niche of victimhood in society and from it weep-beg-wail at the government (loudly as we can) for aid (preferably on a national stage) until the Twitter Mob calls for our strain of reparation for being victimized. Such low wage jobs are but stepping stones to middle and endgame career mastery . . . unless of course, a worker discovers victimhood to be more comfortable. Because you know, no one, just no one can understand the plight of the fast food worker, dude. We get out of life what we put into it in blood, sweat, tears and hard fucking work . . . year after year after year. If an American is comfortable in his or her minimum wage job, that's entirely on their shoulders. We workers of the world? We already shoulder enough responsibility without being taxed to provide for those without any.

Do you want to pay somebody who does NO work for you?

We both generally agree folks should get jobs and work.

I find something interesting though. Are you against minimum wage laws and believe having illegals (who don't have minimum wage protections) in the workforce is good for the economy?

STATEMENT: "Lefties seem to think that employees have no options. If they are making minimum wage, then they will continue making minimum wage until Government comes in, saves the day, and forces all employers to pay more."

RESPONSE: The history of labor and management suggests otherwise. The Pinkerton Riots in the late 19th Century suggests that employees do not need to wait for the government to come in and mess things up.

You do know people have playbox and 5,000 channels to choose from nowadays right?

The late 19th and 20th Century history of labor is instructive, given the Republican Party's efforts to return to the Gilded Age, and the well known quote by George Santayana:
"Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."

Let's learn some history, before what follows in the link below begins anew.

Do you want to pay somebody who does NO work for you?
we are already doing it with more expensive and less market friendly, welfare.

True, but it would not make sense to do more of it.
why do you say that? solving for simple poverty through unemployment compensation for simply being unemployed would me a more efficient economy and less people needing actual welfare.
