And honestly, I'm not sure how much "suck" he had 1999 when he went into the consulting business. His own caucus wasn't happy with him, blaming him for the beat down they took in 1998. (They really had no one to blame but themselves, because after voting to investigate Clinton, they cut a deal with him on spending that increased the size of government. Conservatives got disillusioned and stayed home.)
Now, if they paid him because he knew which committees they needed to present and what they liked to see, and which congressman would be receptive to what approach, that's what consultants are paid to do.
So your complaint with Newt is that he did his job so well that Freddie continued to retain him for a decade?
