Did Lincoln own slaves?

How did the South start the war?

They fired on American troops.

Troops that were trespassing in a foreign country and refused to leave. That's what started it. THINK

How could they be trespassing?

They started on American soil- and were fired upon on American soil.

The Confederacy started the war- and lost their slaves.

And you still are upset about that.

The South viewed Lincoln's Election as a threat to the sovereignty of State's Rights, which inculuded Slavery.

Slavery was the primary issue, but it began as State's Rights.

You are not the 'board'- nor are your opinions fact.

The North didn't go to war over slavery- the South started the war to protect their slave property rights.

The North didn't go to war to free the slaves- the South started the war to protect their 'right' to own human property.

How did the south start the war? They just walked away and then the north said - you can't do that.

How did the South start the war?

They fired on American troops.

Polish troops fired on German tanks. Did Poland start WW II?

You continually decline to answer that question.

American troops firing on American troops are neither Polish or German.

American troops had not invaded anywhere- and when South Carolina started the war, they were not defending against any attack.

How could they be trespassing- they were Federal troops in a Federal fort- which had been a federal fort for a couple of decades.

And then South Carolina started the war by firing on American troops.

Lincoln wanted to stop the spread of slavery into the new territories which is what his big complaint was during the Lincoln-Douglass debates.

You obviously don't understand the meaning of the term "secession."

Inserting your fingers in your ears and shouting "I can't hear you" is not a convincing argument.

Indeed. He originally had no intention of ending slavery where it existed. He thought slavery wrong but admitted he had no authority to stop it in the south. And then he contradicted himself and issued the EP!!

You're half right. The north did not go to war over slavery. They started the war because they opposed secession. Made no sense since america was founded on secession.

And by 'starting the war' you mean "were fired upon by rebel Confederate troops"

When General Pierre Gustave Tourtant-Beauregard (P.G.T. Beauregard) fired upon the Union Troops at Ft. Sumter, he did so under orders to dislodge those troops.

No Union Troops were killed, but by firing on Sumter, that action started the Civil War, which in the end was about freeing the slaves.

The men who gave the order to fire did so knowing that the Union would be forced to retaliate. There was no gurantee the Union would win the war, the early battles proved to be Southern Victories.

In the end a better supplied, better led Union Army prevailed.

The South LOST....some people need to get over that.

How many times are you going to repeat your idiocies?

They're always accompanied by the usual insults and accusations, of course.

Where in International law?

No question the south supported slavery but they did not start the war. They simply left the union. Then the north started the war to force them back. As President Jeff famously said "We just want to be left alone".

In the end a better supplied, better led Union Army prevailed.

The union won mainly because they used war crime tactics and bombed and burned cities. The south was outmanned and outgunned but they had a much easier task and would have won if lincoln had not declared a war on civilians.
