Despite the naysayers the Littoral fleet will be the deadliest thing that ever floated on the oceans...

Here we have what looks like bad news but is in reality simply the due process of development much like the jet engine went through when it was first developed. What the negatively toned article leaves out, maybe for the sake of classified protection is that the smart weapons systems on these new combat ships can hit a fly in the eye over the horizon line from 80 to 120 miles out.

When the propulsion problems are solved...and they will be....the Littoral fleet will be virtually undetectable and target proof....none of the cruise class or smart weapons assault munitions' today can deal with a high speed target that also senses the approach of incoming munitions. In short when the littoral craft is moving at its rated speed it cannot be hit with anything that is standard canon or missle battery today. The idea of scrapping the project is no doubt fueled by less than American interests who understand that the US is on the Verge of complete and longstanding Naval Dominance in very short order. The current technologies though they are decidedly more sturdy from a structural point of view simply continue to provide huge floating targets to the latest Russian and Chinese anti ship technologies. Specifically the huge aircraft carriers which are now in terrible Danger from the latest generation of Chinese ship killing missles..... The Chinese would love to see the littoral program shut down because they do not have an answer for it and are nowhere near getting one either. It will be decades before China can tool up sufficiently to build a competitor that actually works. The one drawback with the new fleet of course is that the carbon fiber hulls are no match for icy waters.....but then again neither was the Titanic.

I am sure the Littoral system is excellent, or will be once they work out the bugs in the propulsion systems.

But the deadliest thing that ever floated on the oceans? That honor still goes to the ballistic missile submarines.
