So maybe New York Democrats aren't all bad! :)

New Bill to Promote Breastfeeding
by Kim Trobee, correspondent

SUMMARY: Legislation would amend the Civil Rights Act of
1964 to protect nursing mothers and includes other
provisions to encourage breastfeeding.

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., introduced legislation that
she called a "Mother's Day present for new mothers."

A group of new mothers came together for a Capitol Hill
"nurse-in" on Thursday to show their support for the bill.

The Breastfeeding Promotion Act would amend the Civil
Rights Act of 1964 to extend protections to breastfeeding
mothers. It would also provide tax incentives for
businesses that establish private lactation areas in the
workplace, and offer families a tax deduction for
equipment to assist in breastfeeding.

Dr. Audrey Naylor with the United States Breastfeeding
Committee said "Many companies have begun to be aware of
the benefit to their company of accommodating
breastfeeding mothers."

She said breastfeeding makes for healthier babies and is
also good for employers and employees because, "It
develops loyalty among employees. It cuts down
absenteeism. For every one dollar that they might invest
in this they might save three dollars."

for their baby's physical, emotional and spiritual
well-being.

in this they might save three dollars."

Dunno :dunno: Ask Dr. Audrey Naylor of the US Breastfeeding Committee. It was her quote.

I was at the park the other day, and I swear this women was still breast feeding her 4 yr old. I'm used to seeing this with Inuit women and their children, but not with yuppies at the park!

I'm all about breastfeeding, but seriously, do we have to amend the Civil Rights Act for this?!? Give me a break.
Agreed!

I agree too but women are going to have to accept that they will be looked at when they breast feed in public. It is fairly unusual to see this in America so if you breast feed in public, some people will stare--just forgive thier naivte and keep feeding that baby. It's not the time to be yelling " What the hell are you staring at-haven't you ever seen a breast before? ".

Perhaps things have changed, but I breastfed all 3 and never had a comment. Don't think a change in laws is necessary. Women should be circumspect and others should get over it. No need for indecency to feed a child.
