Democrats try to ram through Puerto Rican Statehood bill before Jan 3rd

You should because they were held accountable, which is something to which you are unfamiliar.

If a kid said John Hancock was our first President, they would be correct, but not the first President under the Constitution. He was the first President of the Continental Congress.

You were incorrect when you said Puerto Ricans id not pay income tax because you were referring to all Puerto Ricans, which is simply not true as I showed in my links.
You claimed Puerto Ricans pay federal income taxes. A small portion do under a few circumstances, Simp. The populace has no federal income tax they pay.

My claim stands correct.

I'm guessing 90% of your students ended up on welfare.

I have no problem with Puerto Rico having a referendum on statehood, independence or maintaining the status quo. Note: maintaining the status quo is not an option in the latest PR statehood bill that the House passed. BUT - that referendum should not result in a binding commitment on the US Gov't to make them a state if they decide to become one, the final decision for that should rest with the Congress and the President. If they want to be independent then so be it, they should become their own country and their own gov't. If they decide to keep things the way they are then that's fine too. But if they want to become the 51st state, then Congress needs to decide that, not them.
Most puerto ricans Would be fine with the status quo if not for the fact that they have to pay federal taxes while getting no vote in Congress and no vote for the president.

There's a sizable portion of the population that Don't want statehood or independence they simply want to reform the territory system so That the American citizens who live in US territories are not treated as 2nd class citizens. They want an actual vote in Congress they want an actual vote on the electoral college, And they want the same level of autonomy under the Constitution That States get.
Under current federal law Congress dictates the laws of US territories. Congress has the legal authority to override any and all laws passed by any federal territory at any time.

That's kinda contradictory, they don't want to be a state but they want all the rights and benefits of statehood.

Its a bad idea.

We don't need another state.

It does underscore two things; the absolute brain deadness that the US seems to have when it comes to inequity and the inability of the nation to deal with the inequities like adults would based on politics and politics alone.

Look....we have US Citizens without Senatorial representation. It shouldn't happen. Puerto Rico, the USVI etc... need to be folded into an existing state on the east coast. Florida, Maryland, South Carolina...which ever. Guam, Wake, etc... should be folded into Hawaii or California or whatever. No US Citizen should be without representation in Congress.

Also get rid of the 3 electoral votes for the District of Colombia. Having a number evenly divisible by 2 is a recipe for disaster. Knock it down to 435 and remove the possibility of an electoral college tie of 269.

Will Puerto Rico be the next US state? Independence bill goes to US House vote today - as Dem representatives 'look forward to making history'

A bill to vote on Puerto Rico's status within the United States is headed to the house for a vote after being approved by a House committee on Wednesday.

The Puerto Rico Status Act will determine whether the island becomes a state, and independent nation, or a sovereignty associated with the US

Puerto Ricans could move a step closer to a referendum on whether the island should become a U.S. state when the House of Representatives votes Thursday on a bill outlining the process.

A House committee approved the Puerto Rico Status Act on Wednesday, paving the way for the full House vote. The bill was cosponsored by Representative Nydia Velazquez, a Democrat from New York.
The bill was also lead by Rep. Steny Hoyer, a Democrat from Maryland.

If the bill passes the House, it will need 60 votes in the closely divided Senate and Democratic President Joe Biden's signature to become law.

Puerto Rican independence bill goes to US House

No problem, we will just divide a red state up into four states.....Six new GOP Senators. ;)

Not a problem for Democrats, just a larger number of Latino welfare babies, pretty insignificant compared to the millions Biden is letting flood over the borders and bankrupting our safety net for Americans.

A bigger concern is what else is coming up, which the Republicans who will help pass the Democrats' $2 trillion corporate welfare bill before the new Congress and Senate are sworn in. PR is small potatoes; half of them already live in NYC and other places.

They want the bennies but don't want to pay the taxes. Not all that different from the GOP and multi-national corporations really.

They just want the senate votes.. that's it. They seek to change the rules to make things easier for them. It would be entertaining to hear modern leftists justify why it's necessary without simply admitting they want backdoor Senate votes instead of having to earn them the old-fashioned way.. by appealing to the public.

They should be careful what they wish for; a lot of PRs are patriots and have served our country in uniform, and like all LAtinos they frown on kiddie raping, sexually mutilating children, and faggots adopting kids.

Well Puerto Rico would fit right in with the other blue states as its government is as corrupt as they come.

After the commies sniveled about TRump not sending them enough free stuff after the hurricane, much of it was stolen by the local govt. employees and a lot of what is left is still sitting in warehouses. Biden doesn't seem interested in what happened there either.

Not on the national scale of leadership we won't. It will be all Democrat. Between this and amnesty (if they can pull it off) the Republic (democracy) will be over.

It's already over. It's been over for a long time. Did you miss the memo that Eisenhower sent out?
FFS, Pelosi & Ryan both stopped allowing new amendments to be introduced on the house floor. Now they have to have committee approval first. That was the final nail in the Republic coffin. And as far as "democracy" goes, the way the primaries are ran, where the party colluding with the media to pick who runs, who's funded, who get's the most attention on national TV (and many local channels) was the final nail in "democracy."
You're worried about the democrats having the majority for ever. That's just not even possible. It's a uniparty made out to be a two party system.

We will still have republican majorities.

Just more partisan nonsense from Democrats.

No we will not. The Commies are working tirelessly to wipe out the white race; not in a genocidal way, but in a population way. They figured out several years ago white people are what's holding them away from their goal which is a single-party country. This is evidenced by demographics in our voting system that we've known about for years.

Why do you think they welcome illegals with open arms? Why do you think Dementia reversed all of Trump's successful policies? Why do you think he's not lifting a finger to do anything about our border problem and the record number of people coming over? Why do you think he's getting rid of Title 42 next week? It's all a plan to wipe out whites, and the stupid whites are supporting it.

Once we whites are no longer the majority, we will have a single-party country.

So putting a bill up for a vote when one party has a majority in the House (as one or the other always does) is trying to ram it through? Please keep that in mind during the upcoming House session.

Does Puerto Rico not want to be a state?

Puerto Rico has held six plebiscites on whether it should become a state, most recently in 2020, when 52 percent of voters on the island endorsed the move. None of the plebiscites has been binding, however, and turnout has often been low, amid boycotts by critics who support the status quo or independence.

Or just cut them loose and let them be their own country and stop being a drain in the US.
