I let my wife read the Trump claim that the audio was about his Secret and Classified Golf Course plans. Her eyes didn’t too back in her head. They literally spun completely around.

It was such a stupid claim that the wife who voted for Trump in 16 and 20 didn’t come close to believing it.

Those same moderates see the charges as very serious. They believe trump did it. They believe the recording and not the excuse. That was asinine for Trump to make that excuse. The problem is that Trump is just not as clever as he thinks he is. And it has always been his problem.

Six in 10 Americans (60 percent) think former President Trump acted inappropriately in the way he handled classified documents after leaving the White House, while 26 percent think he acted appropriately.

Democrats (95 - 2 percent) and independents (62 - 23 percent) think Trump acted inappropriately in the way he handled classified documents after leaving the White House, while Republicans 58 - 25 percent think he acted appropriately.

A quarter of Republicans think Trump acted inappropriately. More than half the independents think it.

That is a problem. A quarter of the population will vote Republican no matter who the candidate is. Another quarter will vote Democrat for the same reasons. They wouldn’t consider voting for the other party even if Satan was the candidate on their side.

The elections are always decided by the moderates. They shift right and left. The independent voters who split their ballots, who say they are voting for candidates not party’s.

Sixty percent of them think Trump did it. Winning the General when a majority of Independents think you are a crook? Difficult.

The fastest way this ends for Trump is a technical error by the prosecution. Anything not glaring will reinforce the image he is above the law and make that worse.

Trump is screwed. You know it. Or if you don’t, you’re a bigger fool than anyone could imagine.
