Back when the summer of love and mostly peaceful protests were going on I stated several times, on here, that Trump should send in the feds to protect the people. That was my biggest disappointment in him because that is his first priority as potus.

No. Mass law enforcement on an ongoing basis is not something they are trained for, only civil disturbance such as isolated occasion of riot. If the locals need manpower for law enforcement on an ongoing basis they will have to hire it done. Pulling factory workers, insurance salesmen, teachers, mechanics, telecom workers, carpenters, truck drivers and nurses from their full time better paying jobs for an open ended assignment in law enforcement on an ongoing regular basis, it just the formula for doing away with National Guard in that state, as most will be quitting the Guard, preferring to keep their homes and incomes rather than become the new permanent cops on the block. Would you give up yours to make a Sergeant's pay just because local officials will not hire police or build enough jails for the lawless? The Specialist 4 that worked for me was a Masters Degree Certified Public Accountant, single with a 6 figure income. You think she would chuck it for being a cop on the block in a ghetto? No.

Unless you make it a voluntary call up, it would devastate your guard units, and if you did, it would be lower enlisted that would take up the call, for the most part. It is simply not a good idea. I did a couple of weeks of that type duty, during a policeman and fireman's strike in a major city. Two weeks is nothing, but extended duty? Give up my home for a chance to serve the state, not in a national emergency? At that time, the Platoon Sergeant I worked for was a 12 year postman, that made a lot more on his civilian job. The 1st quad leader was a tool and die maker at a local factory making really good money, neither of them had a military required commitment left. I was a turret press operator and a Spec 4, so I broke about even at the time. Of course, my family's medical coverage was through the company I worked. State duty, does not cover family medical care on a call-up basis, unlike Federal Duty. This is not something that all of a sudden came up, and has the Guard as a viable short term fix. It is a really bad idea.

As time goes by I am beginning to agree with the left more and more on defunding the police. If you are going to have leftist policies putting revolving doors on the courts and jails then what's the point of police arresting people? Might as well disband the police altogether and save the money to use for victim's funds.

Police have been neutered for real crimes. That was not the case in 1968. Today we have subterfuge and lies forced on us continuously. We have a minimum of a soft tyranny and live with authoritarians that are in law enforcement and judicial concerns. Elected District Attorneys and related employment are purely political. So National Guard is as on Jan 6. Progs have won on something that was nothing as we remember the day.
