I think this is the fastest I have ever seen TM owned in one of her spam threads. This is also why I can't put TM on ignore, you can't pay people to be this stupid, and it's funny as hell to see.

Do they teach civics and American history in secondary school anymore? Something in the pledge of alligance--that states--"For the REPUBLIC for which it stands" comes to mind.

And a republic is a type of democracy by the very definitions of the words.

Why is it so important for you people to lie about this in mass?

Types of Democracy and Non-democratic Political Systems (C)

I. Types of Democracy:

A. Direct (Gitelson, p. 16, margin)

A1. Face-to-face

a. Ancient Greece

b. New England town meetings (see #405 below)

A2. Democracy by Petition: used only at state and local levels of government (Ross, p. 328-329)

a. Initiative (including Proposition 13- local government property tax reduction)

b. Referendum (rarely used)

[c. Recall election]

A3. Electronic Democracy (Ross text, p. 389- Ross Perot’s ‘electronic town meetings)

B. Indirect: Representative Democracy [Republic] (Gitelson, p. 16, margin)

B1. Requires protection for rights of minorities

B2. Requires widespread distribution of power so that no person or group of people has all the power

B3. Requires elections giving voters significant choices

B4. Requires widespread participation in decision-making

B5. Requires majority rule for some decisions

Why do you people keep reflexsively lying about these terms ?

What do you think you are gaining?

So you are seriously arguing that the People's Republic of China is really a Democracy too?

There is a difference between a Democracy and a Republic. Otherwise there wouldnt be two different terms.

Why do you ignore the very definitions of the words?

Why do you do that?

The terms have meant what they ahve meant for their entire exsistance.

You dont get to change that for some unnamed poltical reason.

The words dont belong to your party change at a whim.

Absolutely.

In the field of political science, which examines types of governments and how they behave, democracy is the label applied to countries which:
* have regular, free, and fair elections which decide the political control of the country.
* have near-universal adult suffrage (adults can vote, regardless of race, gender, or political/religious views).
* have protections for the citizens to speak, protest, and assemble.
* have press freedoms, and access to media, even for opponents to the government.
* follow the rule of law, where even political leaders must follow the law.
* governments are free to act without coercion from unelected actors (like the military, bureaucracy, or the like)

Only people who are vehemently opposed to a democratic society vehemently oppose the term. Conservatism has always tried to build some form of an aristocracy. The only thing that ever changes is who their chosen aristocrats are. When Bush was in the WH, he was the chosen one, when a despot like Scott Walker has his hands on the levers of government, there is nothing he can do that is too anti-democratic, especially when he goes after the 'common man'. But the ultimate aristocrat the right worships is the corporation.

Is China a Republic? Yes or No will suffice
If by your definition, all Republics are inherently Democracies, is China a Democracy? Yes or No will suffice

Yahoo answers??? Are you fucking serious??!!??

It's such a simple concept that unlike a Democracy... a Constitutional Republic seeks to not only limit the powers of government thru the constitution itself, but also seeks to limit the power of majoritarianism

And so that the idiot TM can understand the word...

ma·jor·i·tar·i·an·ism
   [muh-jawr-i-tair-ee-uh-niz-uhm, -jor-] Show IPA
–noun
rule by a majority, especially the belief that those constituting a simple majority should make the rules for all members of a group, nation, etc.

This was a major concern of the founding fathers.. and why a Democracy itself, as a form of government SUCKS, and why we don't have one as our form of government in the United States

Just to refresh the habitual liar's memory

That is not the definition of democracy is it.

Why do you lie about it?

–noun, plural -cies.
1. government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.

why do you people lie in the face of facts?

They are the same.

A republic is a type of democracy.

You just want to change the definitions for some damned reason.

Why is that?

No.. they are not...

Legal Dictionary

Main Entry: de·moc·ra·cy
Pronunciation: di-'mä-kr&-sE
Function: noun
Inflected Form: plural -cies
1 a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority

What our founders wanted to keep away from and protect from was the mob rule of pure majority... hence why we went with the constitutional republic over a democracy

For your observation... again

I just gave you the legal definition of Democracy as a form of government... AGAIN... and AGAIN you ignore it....

You are a dishonest, lying bitch...

Now, bitch... simply answer the questions posed....

It is the first and most important part of the definition... you, with your definition outside of the legal dictionary, do not include the entire text either..... so nice try
