Stupid grazing analogies aside, Assange was not in fact "free" to publish classified US materials. Whether he personally stole them or not, he knew they were stolen and he knew they were classified. He intentionally broke our laws, has placed lots of lives at risk and has not even the beginning of a legitimate claim to the authority to make such decisions.

None of what Assange did -- or the U.S. Government's hoped-for criminal prosecution of Assange -- has a single thing to do with net freedom.
