Yeah, I had vehicles with these vents. They never worked very well though. Very little air flow would come thru them, not really enough to substantiate the need for such a vent.
Actually, I had it point at the floor, because there was no ac for the drivers foot area. My feet would get hot during the summer and cold during the winter. Neither the ac nor the heat was created to vent to the floor area.
Nowadays though, most vehicles have a small vent somewhere under the dash, where ac and heat can flow out of into the foot area on the floorboard. Which also cools the area around the drivers legs, so in turn it cools are area around the driver a little better.....or heats it.
I don't miss them, as they never really worked. I even saw many vehicles back in the day that had the vent, but there was NO connection between the vent and the ac or heat. So it was more of a matter of an ornament piece than a functional piece.
