So what's racist about stating that all official county documents and any business it conducts should be written in English?
Correct.Big deal.......it makes the wing nuts happy
They can now think that English is the only language that can be spoken in their county. In reality, some obscure documents will only be printed in English....just like they were before.
Were any of these in a language other than English? Doesn't say anything about Election material.
The United States Supreme Court has observed that "[c]omplete speech bans, unlike content-neutral restrictions on time, place or manner of expression, are particularly dangerous because they all but foreclose alternative means of disseminating certain information." 44 Liquormart, Inc. v. Rhode Island, 517 U.S. 484, 506, 116 S.Ct. 1495, 1507, 134 L.Ed.2d 711 (1996) (internal citation omitted); see also City of Ladue v. Gilleo, 512 U.S. 43, 55, 114 S.Ct. 2038, 2045, 129 L.Ed.2d 36 (1994) ("Our prior decisions have voiced particular concern with laws that foreclose an entire medium of expression.").

So what's racist about stating that all official county documents and any business it conducts should be written in English?
It isnt because the ordinance is symbolic only; forms and other day-to-day documents will still be provided in other languages.

Everythings available in most other languages, including election material and applications for services.
Anything more restrictive would violate the First Amendment:

The law does what it intends to do........let brown skin people know they are not welcome in Frederick County
Big deal.......it makes the wing nuts happy

Funny, you keep using the term "straw man" without knowing what it means. This is a perfect example of a straw man fallacy. You might want to book mark it for future reference...
Do tell?
Explain how it is a straw man.......it should be interesting
The law does what it intends to do........let brown skin people know they are not welcome in Frederick County
So you think that only "brown skin" people don't speak English? Wow, you sir are a racist.

We know which residents those laws are targeted for

I bolded it for you, half wit. No one said that...but you...
Seriously, google "straw man fallacy definition" and read what you wrote. If you have half a brain, you will see it. I am thinking you don't have half a brain though, prove me wrong...
Those English as an official language laws are written for one reason. That is to pander to that part of the community who whine about having to press 1 for English and bitch because the woman in the checkout line is yelling at her kids in Spanish
So what's racist about stating that all official county documents and any business it conducts should be written in English?
Nothing.
- except the language should be American, not English ...
This is what the ordinance says: “The use of a common language removes barriers of misunderstanding and helps to unify the people of Frederick County, the state and the United States, and helps to enable the full economic and civic participation of all its citizens, regardless of national origin, creed, race or other characteristics, and thus a compelling governmental interest exists in promoting, preserving and strengthening the use of the English language.”
"This is what the ordinance means: Official county documents and business will be written and conducted in English, but matters of public safety can still be conducted in other languages."
Nothing racist about this. Only ignorant people would think this is racist. The United States is suppose to be a "melting pot" in which people "assimilate".
Frederick County makes English its official language - Rosenwald, Md. - The Washington Post
Outstanding.
I am sending this to our Board of Supervisors.
Maybe we can be next.
This "Press 2 for Spanish" is bullshit.
My grandparents didn't have a "Press 2 for Polish" option.
By God, they LEARNED the language of their new country.
Why are we catering to these non-citizens?

Can you show me where the law says white people are allowed to not speak English?
So you're not a racist because you think white people all speak English? Have you ever heard of France or Sweden?

Yes.......I am sure the good legislators of Frederick County are concerned about the influx of Swedes

You are the master of stupid arguments. Show either of these to be true.
They are OK with whites not speaking English
They are not OK with non-white's speaking English.
You're playing the tired liberal "Republicans are racist" card, which is so warn down you can't even read it anymore, and you're whining about Swedes.
Grow up. If you want socialism, argue how socialism works. The everyone who disagrees with you is a racist is tired, just tired.

It's the outrage of pushing 1 for English that get us these stupid laws
