Constitutional Inadequacy: Speaker of the House

The situation that we are observing is because of a couple of imperfections in the basic system. The legislatures are allowed to make their own rules and the House is allowed to choose their Speaker, and somewhere down the line there are rules for the Speaker pro tempore and why committee and legislative processes are suspended. It seems simple enough in a two-party majority that the majority party controls all the processes and things move along trying to wiggle political favors in the composing of legislation that could then pass on to the Senate.

This guy describes several things that are contested about the almighty constitution, but he fails to describe the specific inadequacy effecting the processing of the House.

Our system of elections — first-past-the-post voting, the Electoral College, single-member districts and partisan gerrymandering — feeds into and amplifies our partisan and ideological polarization. Our system of federalism and dual sovereignty between state and national government allows for laboratories of autocracy as much as testing grounds for democracy. Our counter-majoritarian institutions and supermajority rules stymie democratic majorities and turn stability into stasis, putting terrible stress on our entire political system.

His opinion is common political hackery - the other party is dysfunctional. Like everyone else, he sees his partisan affections are unaffected by the system of problems in the system that generates the political parties. He fails to explain that the overall effect essentially shuts down the government that they just agreed to keep open! But I digress. The Republican candidates for Speaker had their plans, and they have seemingly been rejected. And here we are - is this good or bad?

It is certainly something that could easily be avoided had the founders of the United States had the information and technology that we have now to make rules for legislatures and use the judiciary to supervise; which will have other benefits, as well.

What do you think that's going to lead to? Was it a part of the plan all along?
McHenry has the Big Plan that everybody agreed would be the last hope, or something???

The Constitution intentionally makes it difficult for the federal government to do things -- this way, only the most important things, with the widest support possible, +-actually get done.
