Conservatives put stamp on Texas textbooks

With these sweeping changes in curriculum, Texas will need to build a new school book depository the size of Cowboy's Stadium.

So?? Now religion is going to be taught in our schools?? What is wrong with these people?? Rewriting history, pushing an agenda and an ideal upon children..

You people are sick!! This whole thing makes me sick!!

Religion doesn't beling in school!! There is no place for religion in a public school.. You have no right to rewrite our history..

You people are ruining our this nation..

You people=every neotard idiot that supports this!!

Even after pointing out historical documents that show that people were deeply religious you still act like it is false. I wish you guys would just show some kind of counter argument instead of crying foul.

BTW, your own state can teach a different history so you are shielded from the Texas invasion.

And see.. Here is a person that simply doesn't get it..

School is for teaching facts.. Not religious ideas or agendas..

Religions is not based on any facts..

Prove Christ exists.. Prove god exists.. Prove your version of history is correct??

That is the issue.. You can't..

Public schools is not the place for religion.. PERIOD!! Thomas Jefferson knew that!!

"As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion..."

From Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli 1797. Unanimously ratified by the U.S. Senate and signed by President John Adams.

Now when are you neotards going to keep your damn religion to yourself!! We don't want it and don't want our children being brainwashed by you radical terrorists!!

Yea, because you know, religion has never been apart of any nation's history. :cuckoo:

Religion has been a part of all too many nations histories. That is precisely what our founding fathers wished to avoid. Try reading about the religious wars in Europe to get their perspective.

That's a crock and you know it. When they state the religious leaders like Calvin and Aquinas had more influence in the Enlightenment than Jefferson, they are trying to insert religion. The next step will be to remove Paine from the list, also.

omg

the world is gonna end.
CONSERVATIVES in their own STATE are having a say in what is TAUGHT in their schools.
what is a Progressive to do about it.. no MORE revisionist history in the schoolbooks.

oh my oh my oh my.:eusa_pray:

Yes now we got conservative revisionist bullshit!

ah shit, what to do???
tell the friggen truth about the history of country or?
that right there seems to scare the shit out of Progressive more so than Sarah Palin does.lol

The friggin truth about the history of this nations early leaders;

Whenever the Supreme Court makes a decision that in any way restricts the intrusion of religion into the affairs of government, a flood of editorials, articles, and letters protesting the ruling is sure to appear in the newspapers. Many protesters decry these decisions on the grounds that they conflict with the wishes and intents of the "founding fathers."

Such a view of American history is completely contrary to known facts. The primary leaders of the so-called founding fathers of our nation were not Bible-believing Christians; they were deists. Deism was a philosophical belief that was widely accepted by the colonial intelligentsia at the time of the American Revolution. Its major tenets included belief in human reason as a reliable means of solving social and political problems and belief in a supreme deity who created the universe to operate solely by natural laws. The supreme God of the Deists removed himself entirely from the universe after creating it. They believed that he assumed no control over it, exerted no influence on natural phenomena, and gave no supernatural revelation to man. A necessary consequence of these beliefs was a rejection of many doctrines central to the Christian religion. Deists did not believe in the virgin birth, divinity, or resurrection of Jesus, the efficacy of prayer, the miracles of the Bible, or even the divine inspiration of the Bible.

These beliefs were forcefully articulated by Thomas Paine in Age of Reason, a book that so outraged his contemporaries that he died rejected and despised by the nation that had once revered him as "the father of the American Revolution." To this day, many mistakenly consider him an atheist, even though he was an out spoken defender of the Deistic view of God. Other important founding fathers who espoused Deism were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Ethan Allen, James Madison, and James Monroe.

MentalMidget just has to yell and scream... irregardless if he can't understand the concept of what is being taught...

Teaching that religion has and will continue to exist, and that it has shaped world history thru the messages and thru the actions of the believers is INDEED part of history....

They ain't teaching God is real but teaching that many people in the early colonies were religious which makes sense since they were only a 100 years or so from the first PURITIANS landing on plymouth rock. I don't see what the offense is when you are teaching an historical fact or even why that fact should be removed from the textbooks.

Perhaps you are upset that this might create a new generation of "christians" but what why should facts about the nation of the history be altered in order to prevent some possible outcome? Why should history at all be altered for fear of preventing any outcome?

That is correct because christianity just appeared in the last fifty years and before that this entire nation were deist. Its a new religion on this earth recently formed by the republican party. The last 2000 years didn't count. The puritans didn't leave England for the freedom to practice their 'religion'. They left because they wanted to be atheist. They didn't do those strict christian things like prayer and used the bible to get them through the harsh first winters. That was all just right wing propaganda because they were all flaming communist from the start.

If to please the people, we offer what we ourselves disapprove, how can we afterwards defend our work? Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair; the event is in the hand of God.

Note the word God...

Then why are they leaving out Hispanic leaders, why are they leaving out hip hop and why are they pretending that separation of church and state never crossed the Founders' minds.

From the article:

Numerous attempts to add the names or references to important Hispanics throughout history also were denied, inducing one amendment that would specify that Tejanos died at the Alamo alongside Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. Another amendment deleted a requirement that sociology students "explain how institutional racism is evident in American society."

The can just look at the Texas State Board of Education and see how institutional racism is evident in American society......

I can understand the issue about leaving out Hispanic leaders, and I can understand the issue of leaving out the separation of church and state but, seriously, please can we not actually agree that leaving out hip hop is actually no big deal. Good grief, we have to educate kids properly and stop whining about what is or is not politically correct. You only need to look at the level of intellect of the younger members of this board to appreciate the importance of teaching kids to think.

I can guarantee it had more cultural influence then some of the things they want to put in textbooks. Like say the Contract with America.

Obviously Texas must have the highest rated school system in the nation since they dictate what test books most the rest use?
