'My then-wife decided that she didn't want to be married anymore and in the state of Texas, that is completely permitted. That's not my choice, she simply wanted out and the law says that that's how it works."

Crowder brings up an interesting point. When he said the law allowed her wife to divorce, it almost seems like he believes the law should not allow that....that maybe it is best that women are not able to initiate a divorce, especially not without the permission of her husband. Why do you think the divorce rates are so high to begin with? In my case, we stayed together and focused on our kids. It worked, and although the kids knew our marriage was over, they felt good that we were maintaining a family unit until they were grown. This went on for seven years.
The important thing is IMO, is to be honest with the kids and not try to hide the fact that the marriage is over.

Well marriage rates are in decline. No surprise being that men are much better informed as to how the system games them. Men have historically been the gate keepers of marriage, and women the gatekeepers of sex. In this day and age there is precious little incentive for a man to put himself at such extraordinary risk, for something that is so casually, and freely given...

But quick marriages do not always fail. My wife and I met in a bar and 11 months later got married. We have been married only 3 years less than you have been alive and our marriage has never been stronger.
