Conservative Confederates in the south were Democrats but became Republicans in the middle 1960's. Do Republicans on the USMB understand that?

Lincoln was not a confederate.

The KKK was started by confederate conservatives that were in the Democratic Party until blacks started joining. Then they fled the Democrats and became Republicans.

This is just the simple truth. How is it USMB Republicans don't understand this history?

The opposition would like us to ignore the fact that white racists in the South flocked to the Republican party with the passage of the Civil Rights Act. As a result, the democrats have carried the South in only one presidential election in the last 50 years.

Bill Moyers recalled that upon passage of the Civil Rights Act, Johnson said, "I think we've just delivered the South to the Republican Party for the rest of my life, and yours." He was wrong. It took southerns over a hundred years to forgive the Republicans for abolishing slavery and it will take at least as long for them to forgive the Democrats for abolishing segregation.
