A retired officer was on a news channel stating that 75% of males in that age range for several reasons are not eligible to serve. Weight, drugs, psyche issues, criminal records, and education as negatives. One of my kid's is in the service and a decade ago or so they had in many if not all recruitment centers, pre-exercises and marching before you actually went to boot camp a couple times a week and spent a weekend at a reserve base. All of the services did this together. They were called "poolies' then I do not know about now.I’m 70 and would happily serve in some capacity if asked. The current crop of American Gen Zers would be more reluctant, I’m afraid.

The size of the Federal government is unsubstantial. We went over $2 trillion in debt in 2023 alone. The combined cost of Federal, State and Local government is almost 40% of the GDP and it is growing.

None of my relatives who serve have, in fact at least half retired from the military.Back in the day, a young man could expect to serve a couple of years in the military. Today's selfish self absorbed generation might flee to Mexico.
