Looks the gun-grabbers are revving up...
Clinton unveils plan for tighter gun control including executive action, expanded background checks
Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on Monday proposed tighter gun-control measures, including expanded background checks, and suggested that if elected she would use executive powers to achieve her goals.

She called for expanded background checks for firearms sales online and at gun shows. Clinton also called for closing loopholes in federal laws that allow for gun-sale transactions to be completed if the buyer’s background check is not finished within three days.

Clinton will unveil more details about her plans Monday during a campaign swing through New Hampshire.

Her campaign says her proposals also include a repeal of legislation shielding gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers from most liability suits, even in the case of mass shootings like the one that killed nine students and teachers at an Oregon community college on Thursday.

It's a start. Good for her to actually address instead of essentially doing nothing but give speeches like Obama has.

she already promising to SQUASH us some more. BUT like you did with Obama, I'm you'll run right out and vote for it

WHY are they more SPECAIL then the rest of us in this country?

Thanks for the laugh Stephanie. You're good for something and that should make you feel good.

NY Daily News to State Dept: Designate the NRA a 'Terrorist Group'
"Its influence is more of an immediate threat to the lives of our citizens than foreign terrorists."
10.5.2015

Just two days after the horrific mass-shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, the New York Daily News ran acolumn urging the U.S. State Department to officially characterize the National Rifle Association as a “nearly-state sponsored terrorist group” and arguing that "its influence is more of an immediate threat to the lives of our citizens than foreign terrorists."

Columnist Linda Stasi writes:

One terrorist group is responsible for more civilian deaths since December 2012 (the Sandy Hook massacre) than Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hamas and the Taliban. Yet it is the only nearly-state sponsored terrorist group that is not listed by the U.S. State Department as such.

It is the National Rifle Association and for their unending lobbying that’s kept a lid on gun control we now have 428 times more American deaths by gun than deaths by foreign terrorists.

As justification for this claim, Stasi explains:

Between 2012 and 2015, according to University of Maryland’s Global Terrorism Database, ISIS has murdered approximately 12,138 civilians, Boko Haram,10,092, the Taliban 9,427 and Hamas, 85.

In that time, Americans have murdered or spree killed via gun and assault rifle, 87,423 people in the United States.

In contrast, terrorism killed 28 Americans per year on both U.S. soil and abroad according to the Global Terrorism Database.

In conflating these figures, Stasi neglects the question of motive. ISIS was founded on the slaughter of infidels, whereas the NRA has supported laws regulating gun ownership and fights for the right of American citizens to arm themselves for their own protection. None of this matters a whit to Stasi who concludes:

For those who agree with the President that an effective law, that would stop incidents like this most recent one in Oregon this new law would read: "Confiscate all fire arms. Kill those who own them. Trash the Second Amendment."

Short and simple, isn't it?

And for such yahoos - includin the biggest yahoo in the White House - nothing less than that will do.

At least you have some sort of plan. Probably as feasible as "banning guns". Got anything more realistic?

Which of these "solutions" would have stopped Oregon?

The guy passed a background check, jumped through all the gun control hoops and bought a legal gun.

Which of these "solutions" would have stopped Gay Reporter shooter?

The guy passed a background check, jumped through all the gun control hoops and bought a legal gun.

Which of these "solutions" would have stopped California Virgin shooter?

The guy passed THREE background checks, mandatory waiting periods, was licensed, the guns were registered, took a gun safety class and we approach and questioned about his mental health THE DAY BEFORE the shooting by police.

I posted this yesterday...

In 2014, St. Louis circuit judges gave gun criminals probation 62 percent of the time.

The case that has the chief so upset right now involves Jamel Yates, 18, who was charged last week with allegedly killing a man he was selling a gun to in the 6000 block of Suburban.

At the time of last week's shooting, Yates was on probation on a gun charge related to a traffic stop that went badly back in February.

In April, Yates pleaded guilty to illegally carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest.

The judge gave him probation.

Now, less than six months later, Yates is charged with first degree murder, which the chief pointed out in that series of tweets issued by the department.

'When you have a culture that is so prone to violence right now you have to interrupt that and to put that young man right back out on the street into a situation where guns are readily available, where violence happens in communities, you have to take him out of that environment,' Dotson said. 'Am I saying everybody needs to go to jail? No. But we do need to get people`s attention. What I do know is probation does not get people`s attention.'

Chief Dotson says judges are part of the gun violence problem in St. Louis city

The "illegal" part pertains to guns that are stolen, or people that aren't eligible to own them that are caught with one (felons, drug dealers, and the mentally ill)... Of course, I would also agree with prosecuting people who knowingly provide those individuals with firearms (straw purchasers).

Other than that, the best route is controlling CRIMINALS, and making the penalty high enough to either be a deterrent or get (and keep) them off the streets...

Agreed, but you also need to beef up the law-abiding part of the formula. All gun-free zones need to be outlawed immediately. Of course, this isn't the case on private property, but what that means is that the host is legally responsible for their guest's safety. Mainly, I'm thinking more of these businesses who post these ridiculous signs thus endangering their customer's safety rather than an individual homeowner.
