We are overly sensitive.
We are afraid to call a mentally ill person "Sick in the head".
We need to be compassionate and understanding......"give him some space, he'll sort it out.
Hell, in some cases, we applaud their courage.

We have to have the love and compassion to get help for sick people instead of burying our heads in the sand.

Every single one of these nutjobs displayed classic mental illness warning signs well in advance of these incidents but no one wanted to act on their hunches.

The "illegal" part pertains to guns that are stolen, or people that aren't eligible to own them that are caught with one (felons, drug dealers, and the mentally ill)... Of course, I would also agree with prosecuting people who knowingly provide those individuals with firearms (straw purchasers).

Other than that, the best route is controlling CRIMINALS, and making the penalty high enough to either be a deterrent or get (and keep) them off the streets...

Let's see how the Left's gun control measures are really working: Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago, etc., all have the most stringent gun control policies of any cities in the United States. They also have the highest gun crime rates of all cities. Schools are the utopia of the gun control freaks because they are gun free zones - no guns allowed within ever how many feet the Left dreams up. Still . . . Any mentally deranged person or criminally inspired person knows the places with the most stringent gun laws and gun free zones will afford an environment of least resistance to his activities. There should be little chance of anyone returning his fire. So, how has the Liberal model of gun control worked out thus far? Very poorly.

No. The criminals will continue to have guns regardless of any prohibitions you place upon them. You set up a school as a gun free zone. You can kill someone with a knife or a variety of objects but nothing is as efficient as readily accessible as firearms. While guns don't kill people, they do make it much easier. Combine that with a violent society and you have a problem. The solution needs to come from both the access to guns angle as well as the people angle.
