Children in poverty

Yeah, actually I did. You leftists fuckwits never address the causes of these situations.... you just whine and conjure up new ways to take more money form the majority of us who don't allow ourselves to be in these situations.

Y'know what? I don't believe a word you say. I don't believe you have a family, who would marry an inhumane ass such as yourself. I don't believe you have kids, a home, or anything worth having. I believe you will die, and soon; old, lonely and alone.

Sucks to be you.

The thing about it is that it's even uglier than it seems. Racism is at the heart of the hatred that animates the TP movement. Sometimes they're willing to admit it, sometimes not, but either way it's anger motivated by fear.

Only in your tiny little closed mind Bucko. Go peddle the racecard elsewhere.

What are the chances of those living in "poverty" in the US starving as compared to those living in POVERTY in Africa?
I think that is what we have to ask. Most "poor" in this country are far healthier than the POOR in other countries.
That is what other posters have referenced.
This definition of "poverty" in the US is a joke.

You just keep telling yourself that, toots.

Why wouldn't he tell himself that? It's true.

Hunger in this country is determined by whether or not people earn a certain income, or whether or not they qualify for foodstamps. It isn't about whether or not the kids are hungry.

We have convinced ourselves that we should NEVER be hungry. Hello obese nation. It is normal to be hungry in between meals, and healthy.

It's normal for children to go to bed hungry sometimes, too. I can remember going to bed hungry (or eating bread and butter) when I didn't like the meal that was being served. There was no BK or McD's to go do, there were no frozen pizzas. You ate what was served, or you went without, and sometimes we went without.

Hunger in this nation is not comparable to hunger in other nations. We do not have hunger here like it exists across the world....there are children occasionally who are malnourished because they have crappy parents who don't feed them, but that is not the norm, it is not common, and it is not a problem.

It will be a problem if we start drug testing food stamp recipients, though.

There is a HUGE difference between what you describe and not having enough food to feed one's family, period.

A family of 4 earning 22 k a year (the official poverty rate for a family of 4) living in rural Alabama might be okay off, but the same family living in New York are poor. A family or person that stands between paying the rent and utilities vs feeding himself and his family is poor and it does not matter he has a car or a fridge or a microwave or a mobile phone.

If that person has a car, microwave, or mobile phone, and yet can't pay the rent/utilities, the person has misplaced priorities. It's interesting to me how many Americans can't afford rent or food, but can afford a satellite dish and cable. Priorities, priorities.

The reason we have programs for the poor is not too keep our streets free of victims of starvation. That's not going to happen. You can survive on one meal a day. However, people that are hungry and constantly worried about where the next meal is coming from don't do a good job of parenting, interviewing for jobs, or much of anything else. Kids that go to school hungry don't learn. When you're hungry, it's difficult to concentrate on anything but food. Feeding the poor benefits all society, not just the poor.

I'm beginning to wonder if we'll be dealing with the diseases that accompany malnutrition again, here, in my lifetime.

Grats!

Considering the competition, it's hard to rise above the common lies to create fear.

Childhood obesity is MUCH more of a problem facing this country than malnutrition could ever be...

You really do need to pay attention in school...

How can anyone see this and not worry about what things are coming down to in America today.

Hunger & Poverty In America - YouTube

a. Forty-three percent of all poor households actually own their own homes. The average home owned by persons classified as poor by the Census Bureau is a three-bedroom house with one-and-a-half baths, a garage, and a porch or patio.

b. Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning. By contrast, in 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning.

c. Only 6 percent of poor households are overcrowded. More than two-thirds have more than two rooms per person.

d. The average poor American has more living space than the average individual living in Paris, London, Vienna, Athens, and other cities throughout Europe. (These comparisons are to the average citizens in foreign countries, not to those classified as poor.)

e. Nearly three-quarters of poor households own a car; 31 percent own two or more cars.

f. Ninety-seven percent of poor households have a color television; over half own two or more color televisions.

g. Seventy-eight percent have a VCR or DVD player; 62 percent have cable or satellite TV reception.

h. Eighty-nine percent own microwave ovens, more than half have a stereo, and more than a third have an automatic dishwasher.

i. As a group, America's poor are far from being chronically undernourished. The average consumption of protein, vitamins, and minerals is virtually the same for poor and middle-class children and, in most cases, is well above recommended norms. Poor children actually consume more meat than do higher-income children and have average protein intakes 100 percent above recommended levels. Most poor children today are, in fact, supernourished and grow up to be, on average, one inch taller and 10 pounds heavier than the GIs who stormed the beaches of Normandy in World War II.How Poor Are America's Poor? I used to be surprised at how gullible folks like you were...then I saw that Barack Obama had been elected.
And here we're being told by the Rabid Right that there is no such thing as a successful government social program. This reads like a sterling endorsement of the War on Poverty instituted by Lyndon Baines Johnson way back in the 1960s!

Imagine how that same War on Poverty would have turned out if Michelle Bachmann had waged it! Probably a lot like the War on Drugs started by the sainted Ronald Reagan. Just say "No!" to being poor!

The War on drugs was started by Nixon and contiunued through to this day by both parties. And it is and will always be a joke.
The war on Poverty is just as much a joke as there are plenty of people willing to help those truly in need. Of course now you have the government going after these people for daring to try and serve food without the blessing of the government. A blessing in the form of taxes and fees.
You claim social programs work yet I have seen people use food stamps to buy drugs, lottery tickets, booze and cigarettes. Great job there.

I've seen people with driver's licenses speed, forget to use turn signals, text while driving, even use the automobile as a get-away device after committing a felony! Maybe that's another government program too abused to exist any more. Try again.

I know. This is why I pointed out that hunger is not a problem in the US compared to other countries. What I have described passes as hunger in this country. It is not starvation, and it does not result in malnutrition.

It is a rarity for families to go hungry in this country, and there's no excuse for it..if kids are hungry here it's just because the family is too stupid to get up off their dumb ass and get food stamps or contact the nearest food pantry or church. And that is extremely unusual.

You really do need to pay attention in school...

Obesity quite often comes from not being able to afford healthy food.

And also from ignorance as to nutrition.

As someone who grew up in poverty, I suggest people replace their occasional emotional reactions with a cold hard FEARLESS look at the actual causes of poverty.

by any standards I grew up in poverty too, the deal is you don't know you're poor cause everyone around you is in the same situation. We did have three meals per day, a lot of times it was beans and milk but it was good food. To this day I'll make a good pot of beans and some cornbread. fills the tummy and oh so yummy. EDUCATION is the way out of poverty. EDUCATION.

I love beans, any kind. I make the best barbequed beans, and ham and lima beans. Bet mine are better than yours!!!

Since when has the government been giving out free cars and licences. And where can I get mine?
How about you try again?

BS. Obesity comes from eating too much and not exercising enough. People are just too lazy to look at the labels of what they are buying.

When are you libtards ever going to realize that the only thing that gets Americans out of POVERTY are JOBS--and not welfare checks and food stamps?

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."Winston Churchill
