This is the assault that is mentioned in the article. The video is from the Chicago affiliate of ABC News.

So here's my question: What action could the police possibly have taken to stop that assault, without progressives accusing the police of engaging in police brutality?

Chicago police investigating officers’ response to mob attack in Loop after witness says police declined to help

The Chicago Police Department launched an investigation into how officers responded to violence that broke out late Saturday during a large gathering of young people in the city’s downtown tourism district.

The investigation comes after a viral video showed a mob attacking a couple as they exited a Loop store and it follows allegations of police inaction.

As the attack unfolded, police failed to respond to calls for help and even drove past, said Lenora Dennis, who witnessed the beating and helped the couple get to safety.

“It makes me feel scared. It terrifies me that people are either asleep at the wheel or that they’re willfully blind,” Dennis told the Tribune on Wednesday.

The attack Dennis witnessed was one of the violent outbursts that emerged as hundreds of teens and young adults met up downtown. People blocked traffic, jumped onto a CTA bus and attacked passersby during the mayhem, and two teen boys were shot as they stood in the crowd.

The chaos has since sparked national coverage, and video of the attack Dennis saw, first published by the CWB Chicago website, garnered national attention with over 14 millions views on Twitter alone.

But what video didn’t capture, Dennis said, was repeated inaction from nearby police officers as the 20-year-old woman and 22-year-old man from out of state were punched and kicked by over a dozen people.

Why risk getting injured and prosecuted for doing one's job, especially after the city voted in a scumbag who will go out of his way to make examples out of any cop who interferes with the thugs who elected him in the first place? Every black in the city is on the look out for any chance to bait a cop and sue for Big Bling.

Let them burn the place down, screw getting in their way. The police did the right thing. Let the Mayor run out there and give the rioters hugs and kisses.

Idiots. They're as stupid as the morons who keep going to Mexico or Iran or Russia when they know full well they're degenerate shitholes. Dumbass white Burb Brats who think they're immune to Bad Stuff, probably loaded up on Prozac.

Don't blame the cops, blame the people who tied their hands so they can't enforce the law and treat criminals like criminals.

If the Chicago police were allowed to move in like gangbusters, exceed any physical means the criminals present, arrest them as soon as shit happens, and be convicted of crimes when they go to court then you would see a big drop in crime rates in the first year.

But Beetlejuice hamstringed the cops years ago. Criminals should be afraid of the cops and the courts, but they aren't anymore. Fear is what barbarians understand.

Unfortunately police are in a "damned if we do damned if we don't" situation.

To me, the solution is to grab peripheral criminals in the mob and start piling them in trucks. They can use police video and video on the streets to prosecute all they can. Once the mob see people being arrested, they may choose to leave.

All police in Chicago should just walk off the job. They are totally useless and it isn't even their fault, just a fact.
