Unemployment went down under FDR and the people sure felt they were recovering under him because tehy re elected him a couple more times huh?
The voting public didn't have access to information the way we do now, and unemployment was increasing after bottoming out in 1937 at over 14%.
FDR himself was worried that the country would fall back into a Depression after the end of the war, and was preparing to jack up taxes and expand government spending. Fortunately, Congress rejected this plan and cut taxes instead, resulting in a peace time boom economy.
