INDIANAPOLIS -- A promise made before Christmas is fizzling before the Fourth of July.

In December, then-President-elect Trump told hundreds of workers at the Carrier manufacturing plant that he had worked out a deal to save their jobs.

But it's not working out that way. A steady downpour today did little to wash away the fact that the jobs of 600 union employees are going south.

"They're going to Monterrey, Mexico," said Robert James, president of the local union.

Reynolds said he felt betrayed, since Mr. Trump told workers during his December visit to the plant that 1,100 jobs would be saved.

Those laid off have the option of getting together and building their own factory. That would be the American way, start your own job if you are unhappy working for others or cannot find what you consider suitable employment.

Hundreds of Boeing and Carrier Workers to Lose Their Jobs


In a move that appears to negate President Donald Trump’s numerous vows to fight for American workers at risk of losing their jobs due to corporate outsourcing and layoffs, Boeing told CNN on Thursday that around 200 workers based in South Carolina would be fired in an effort to cut costs.

The layoffs, according to reports, will come from several factories throughout the state, including one Trump visited just a few months ago.

“The South Carolina plant was Trump’s first company visit outside the Beltway after he became president,” the Washington Post noted.



In a memo to employees on Thursday informing them of the layoffs, Joan Robinson-Berry, vice president and general manager of Boeing South Carolina, wrote that “there may be more to come.”
