Does consumerism make us naturally paranoid about self-gratification?

Here's a mock-dialogue between Marvel Comics' Ant-Man (aka 'Wasp') and Carnage (real name: Cletus Kasady) about modern commercial 'rebelliousness totems' such as Mortal Kombat X.

Signing off,

ANT-MAN: I suppose you'd wreak havoc even at Harvard...
CARNAGE: I despise everything in America!
ANT-MAN: Even schools?
CARNAGE: Americans are arrogant, not educated!
ANT-MAN: What about Abraham Lincoln?
CARNAGE: Your tiny size and closeness to ants has made you soft!
ANT-MAN: Lincoln changed America for the better and governed during civil war.
CARNAGE: America has become a land of profiteers (i.e., Wall Street).
ANT-MAN: The World Bank and the European Union facilitate peaceful commerce.
CARNAGE: Americans romanticize bank-robbers (e.g., Bonnie and Clyde)!
ANT-MAN: There's no excuse for justified mischief...
CARNAGE: Multiculturalism creates many frustrations!
ANT-MAN: America does not need unchecked terrorism...
CARNAGE: Once Burger King crumbles, maniacs will run in the streets with guns!
ANT-MAN: American cops are trained to deal with civilization hysteria.
CARNAGE: Many young black men sing songs about killing cops!
ANT-MAN: Those are 'rap songs' signifying simple rebelliousness...
CARNAGE: Americans will become obsessed with horror-films and apocalypse films.
