So, if the governments purpose of Cap And Trade is to reduce supposedly bad behavior (reduce global warming carbons and gasses), basically, that says the government intends to tax things which they want to stop.
It's not only that, they say that they want to tax other behaviors they want to reduce also, tobacco and alcohol being two other biggies when using that line.
    Ever hear of income tax?
Are they trying to reduce the amount of income you generate?

Maybe the promise that no one's income tax will go up will be kept. They will just add additional taxes and take away writeoffs instead.

The purpose of Cap and Trade is to generate revenue for the Federal Govt. and and by doing so establish trading system that enriches those companies, and indivuduals that are vested in envir-business at the expense of the American comsumers. While many in congress will point to a CBO report based soley on utility costs and assuming that the revenue generated from cap and trade is given back to the taxpayers , see thats the key the " REVENUE GENERATED IS GIVEN BACK TO TAXPAYERS" will offset the rise in utility bills. The report hardly touches the sruface of value adds, to fuel, transportation, food, consumer goods, jobs losses. So the bottom line is this, the same Govt. that brought you an almost trillion dollar stimulus and promised 3 million jobs and an unemployment rate that wont rise above 8%, the auto bailouts to avert the auto companies from bankruptcy, bank bailouts to ease credit markets are now asking you to believe that your costs won't rise much if any because they plan to give back the monies earned in cap and trade. All this based on as yet unproven science, and a bill that has been admitted by the EPA that will have no effect without the participation of China and India who have already said they will not. This bill is a disaster and non-starter from day one, and this country simply cannot afford a bill crafted from the ideas of man who would tell you and I that the earth is warming and is man made and at the same time get on his private jet, his ATV's, his limos, and own cardon trading companies.

Yeah, it's definitely not just about reducing the 'bad behavior' of polluters, it's also a way for the government to increase revenue in a way that de-incentivizes bad behavior.

That is the theory behind what Al Gore has been pushing for years. The facts are that more than in 2007 37 million Americans lived below the official poverty line, 15.4 million of those Americans live in extreme poverty. The middle class was rapidly shrinking then. Now the people not making ends meet is growing. Mar 31, 2008 it was reported in the NY Times that the number of Americans receiving food stamps is projected to reach 28 million and that does not account for the estimate of people who are eligible that do not use food stamps. One in nine Americans now receive food stamps according to the USDA. In March the food stamp enrollment jumped by two percent. At this rate the country is sliding and these politicians want to play games adding more of a cost burden to the people. WTF is wrong with them?

They are not only working on driving up the cost up on the rich they are destroying what little is left of the middle class and killing off the poor.

I know what the cap and trade scam is, I was just pointing out how even the lies they give for the reason for doing it are just as stupid.
