BREAKING NEWS: Manson family killer Leslie Van Houten, 73, is released from prison after serving 53 years of a life sentence

She earned nothing. If you have a gambling problem or are an alcoholic and you steal, you can be redeemed. You kill somebody for the thrill of it and there is no redemption until you die in prison.
She was suffering from severe mental illness and her brain was awash in LSD.

oh, I think there were a lot of problems with how Bugliosi handled that case. He took what should have been a slam dunk case and made it the longest and most expensive case in CA history. (At least until the OJ case)

The real question is how much culpability did she have, compared to Manson and Watson, who were the ringleaders.

The problem is, you can't lock up everyone forever... At some point, you have to let some people out on good behavior for no other reason than to get the rest of them to behave themselves.

So when do we lock up Trump? He actually instigated an ACTUAL race war.

Wrong he did not.

Come to think of it. I am glad she’s being released.

And I hope she gets killed by some crazy ass motherfucking piece of shit cult member (or leader) either the moment she is released or just before she gets to her “home.”

I would think that the parole board folks would probably be thinking of the hot water they would be in, if any of these killers were to go out and kill again.

I never got the feeling like these girls (only teenager at the time) were the same as mature killers who fully understand what they do - they might have been influenced by drugs too, in addition to Manson's control over them

And what about the 3rd one? What's the difference between her and Van Houten ?
The 3rd one - Krenwinkel - will likely never be released, even though she was paroled in a decision reversed by Newsom.

She was by far the most brutal/vicious of the three women, present and actively attacking victims on both nights.

She has another parole hearing this November, but if she's again paroled, Newsom will again reverse the decision.

She will die in prison.

She did, however, participate in at least two other murders, less notorious than Sharon Tate, only because the victims were not so famous, but not any less horrific.

This is the sort of subhuman filth that should never have been allowed any chance to ever take a free breath of air ever again.
Calley?

She should have stayed confined for the rest of her life.

If she was so what? All that means is that the 19 year old gang banger should have been kept locked up, also. Locking up violent offenders is more for the safety of the law-abiding outside of prison than for any kind of justice. Justice would have required her to be violently killed, not housed in a California women's prison which are so cushy that men have started to lie about their genders to get into them.

Her goal was to start a race war, by blaming blacks for her own brutality. We saw, in 2020, how destructive it can be when people whip up a race war, so she deserves what she got and more.
Do you think Calley should have been violently executed for his horrendous crimes?

That goodness we belong to a religion that Christ's blood doesn't cover murder.

Good point. You should probably give this more context, though.

What Rusty Calley did at Mai Lai was 100 times worse than what the Manson Family did.
Yet he only spent a few years under house arrest before he was released into society.

Today, he lives a quiet life somewhere in Georgia.

But, hey, it wasn't like he killed white people or anything.

We know little of the atrocities of war. Calley was caught for whatever reasons.

Exactly; in both cases the killers behaved monstrously, but in only one were the victims non-White.

And the crimes Calley and his men commited were - incredibly - infinitely worse in every way than the worst of what the Manson Family did, and under color of the US military.
