BP oil spill conspiracy theories - Boing Boing

Why can't there be any conspiracies with the worst oil spill and absolute envirnomental disaster!

Conspiracy 1:
The Obama administration caused this and want it to be bad. Think about it.
(1) It happened close to Earth Day.
(2) Cap and Trade wouldn't make it through Congress even if it was all Democrats.
(3) The Global Warming Theory is falling apart, with more and more skeptics jumping ship everyday.
(4) Obama just pasted and executive order demanding fuel efficency standards for big rigs.
(5) And a liberal dream is to get draconian and demand fuel standards for all newly made cars. Not to mention the electric car revolution is about to unfold and they (and I) want it to take off.
(6) The piss poor response to the oil spill is WORSE than Katrina!
(7) The opposition to off-shore drilling, drilling in AK and drilling in America was hitting all-time lows. Fighting it would be extremely hard for Obama.

Here is all the motivation they needed. Now they attack BP (a British Co)! They did it to promote the far leftist environmental movement!

They wanted to punish America and hit us hard! They evil bastards have no concious, so why not hit us. It will be hard to prove. With no direct human life, going to war would be tough for Obama to get approval for. However, this will be the great enviromental disaster right in our backyard, in which it will cost billions of dollars in clean, lost revenue and damage. Those commie bastard.


For the record I believe in neither of these conspiracies, but why should the Obama administration escape conspiracies!

Why on earth would Obama send SWAT teams to the rigs in the Gulf


I doubt we will ever know the truth though.

I was thinking the same thing, however, 9/11 Insider and Eots won't jump on them, because they only believe conspiracy theories if the Jews and the Republicans are involved!

I doubt we will ever know the truth though.

As much as I would love to believe NK was the cause of this I doubt it. First, that really doesn't seem like a thing Obama would cover up. In fact, it seems just like something we would nearly embrace. It would be all the justification we would need to bomb the ship out of NK and take out their nukes! Second, I would think BP who is taking an enormous amount of slack, being open to billions of dollars in damages, enormous lost profits and irrepairable PR would bring this to the surface loud and clear. Scream this information to everyone with a mircrophone, camera or pen! Lastly, I highly doubt a NK submarine could make it from NK to the Gulf undetected and I doubt NK has the military sophistication to pull off such an operation!

The theory I heard is that all the fat cats have invested in this spill. When the price of gas goes up they all stand to make a fortune. Including Obama. Check this out; a similar spill in 1979

As long as we're basically talking about farcical theories, how's about some farcical solutions? How about the idea that this has seriously damaged the share price of BP, meaning the company would be cheaper to purchase? Who wouldnt be interested, it is one of the most profitable organisations on the planet. Say the US government decieds to nationalize the company in an attempt to stop the leak, because BP is failing to do it, itself. Then the US govenment has an even larger interest in oil because it has a massivly profitable and massive producer of oil. This might help the US budget deficit, and mean less reliance on arab states for oil. Plus it also ties back to Obamas plan to create a national health service. Even though its not directly related, maybe this is another attempt at socialism. Who says that the US electorate wouldnt back the Emergency Nationalization of BP to help stem the oil leak. And then after its all done, realise the benifits to nationalizing companies is.

Not a bad idea at all!

However, personally I don't think it was the Obama administration, because to do it he would have to be not only evil, but have no moral compass whatsoever. Although I think he is a horrible president, I do think he is a moral person in capable of doing this.

That said, he is about to make an address to the union today, where he is going to anounce a new energy plan for America, including cap and trade, fuel emission standards and Green policies to match the failing Spanish Economy!

Im actually from the UK. Im sure our media coverage on the situation is different from the US.
Its been in the papers about the use of the name British Petroleum instead of BP. I dont think its been called British Petroleum since 1998.
It seems on this side that using that name seems to implicate us as a country, which clearly is not the case.
Anyway, i was thinking to myself today, during his election, it seemed that Obama was "Figuratively speaking" walking on water, and now the US media and population are blaming him, as if expecting him to personally swim down and plug the hole himself. It might just be me, but im sure he could only do 1 of those. lol
