Remember right after the Boston bombing happened and the radical right propaganda machine was stating the bomber was a Saudi man that was hospitalized, who turned out to not be involved in any way?

He's not putting up with the lies and is suing Glenn Beck for defamation. Good for him! The far right needs to be held accountable for their lies and propaganda. :eusa_clap::eusa_clap:

Of the many things about the Boston Bombing, such as the military invasion and occupation of the city (martial law 3rd AMendment violation), this is one of the least important and most irrelevant things imaginable that is connected to it.

One of the least important? What the hell is wrong with you?

Beck and far right propaganda machine completely smeared an innocent person just because they were middle eastern. How would you like to have your name be publicly smeared and told you committed a terror attack over nothing except for how you looked?

Your going sue someone for giving their opinion yeah good luck with that.

Beck and the far right propaganda machine was making front page news on the tv, web, radio, and everywhere else they could to falsely claim an innocent man committed a terror attack.

If there isn't a more perfect example of defamation, this is it.

Your going sue someone for giving their opinion yeah good luck with that.

Sadly true in this case, I'd wager.

Defamation is a terribly difficult case to prove in the USA.
Hate to bring him up but George Zimmerman tried to sue NBC over their editing his 911 call in the Trayvon shooting that went nowhere and I don't see this faring any better.

He did more than give his opinion.

BOSTON (CN) - Glenn Beck defamed on his radio show a Middle Eastern victim of last year's Boston Marathon bombing as a criminal participant in it, the man claims in Federal Court.

Abdulrahman Alharbi sued Beck, The Blaze Inc., Mercury Radio Arts and Premiere Radio Networks for defamation and slander.
Alharbi describes himself in the 6-page lawsuit as "a 20-year-old student who was a spectator at the Marathon and was injured in the bombing. Mr. Alharbi, like many others, was questioned by federal authorities investigating the events of that day.

Those authorities also, with his permission, searched his apartment. The responsible officials quickly concluded that Mr. Alharbi, other then being injured in the attacks, had no involvement in the attacks. Many news outlets reported the facts of the search of an apartment and that authorities had questioned a man of Middle Eastern descent.

When the authorities concluded that Mr. Alharbi had no involvement, reports ceased. The defendant Glenn Beck, with the active participation of the distributor defendants, repeatedly and falsely identified Mr. Alharbi as an active participant in the crimes that were committed on April 15, 2013, repeatedly questioned the motives of federal officials in failing to pursue or detain Mr. Alharbi and repeatedly and falsely accused Mr. Alharbi of being a criminal who had funded the attacks that took place at the Boston Marathon. Those statements were made widely and publicly. The statements were false and did grave injury to the plaintiff."

Beck, The Blaze and Mercury Radio all are based in Texas, defendant Premiere in California. Beck's show is owned by Blaze and its corporate parent Mercury, according to the complaint.

The complaint adds: "Beck falsely accused Alharbi of being a criminal who had funded the attacks that took place at the Boston Marathon.

"On or about May 8, 2013, and at repeated and diverse times thereafter, Beck stated that Alharbi was the 'money man' who had funded the attacks at the Boston Marathon.

The statements made by Beck were false."

Alharbi says he has "received numerous messages ... based on Beck's statements accusing him of being a murderer, child killer and terrorist."

He seeks punitive damages for defamation with malice.
He is represented by Peter J. Haley, of Boston."

He will win. Tidy settlement out of Court if Beck is lucky.

This is a serious issue for Beck, the Blaze, etc ...
This man is not a public figure and not subject to "fair comment"

I'm a staunch defender of the First Amendment, but I believe the only way we are going to restore credibility is to hold media outlet accountable for their irresponsibility. Especially when dealing with private people who have not invited public attention .... whether it's Zimmerman or this guy.

Doubtful as I pointed out in a previous post George Zimmerman tried to sue NBC over their editing of his Trayvon 911 call that went nowhere also.

If Beck wrongfully slandered the man, he needs to pay.

Period.

This is not a right/left issue, this is a right/wrong issue.

Now, let it happen the other way around, politically, and the silence will deafen us all.

I tend to agree.
Words have consequences - there is no shield here. And it can't be argued that it was a one-time mistake. It was repeated often.
