Just caught the end of the segment on CNBC, but seems a 16yo woman's invented a body-heat powered flashlight. That's clever.

I have a flashlight that I shake to charge. Works good enough for me, so it should be good enough for a poor Filipino to do their homework.

I think I paid $12 for 3 of them on ebay 5 years ago.

She no doubt has a bright future ahead of her. At 16, she's still a teenager, but with her ingenuity she's got the makings of a great engineer.

It will work better as a light worn on the forehead. Always warm there, unlike hands, and keeps the hands free. That would make a fine emergency light (never needs batteries) for mining/caving, or in cold climates, where the outside is always cool and you'd get a big delta-T to drive it. Not as useful in hot climates.
