I was at one of those buffet restaurants years ago loading up on favorites - black eyed peas, greens, sweet potatoes, fried chicken...

Then I noticed a black guy on the other side of the buffet with a plate load of roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans....

We looked at each other, then our plates, and broke out laughing.

It's the food I grew up eating... Collard greens... Hamhock and beans...

It's not Black food... It's good food.

I am white and grew up in the south.

We ate fried chicken, cornbread, ham hocks, collard greens, black eyed peas, sweet potato pie, and in the hot summer evenings had ice cold watermelon.

But today mentioning that food is somehow racist.

Although most black people I know still cook it and love it. ...
