Best Guitar Solo Ever

Love Zappa- one of our most under-rated Guitarists. Everyone should own a copy of the 3 disc classic - "shut up and play yer guitar". That being said....

Robert Fripp rips this solo to shreds circa 1974.....solo starts at 1:30

I've listened to Heavy Duty Judy about 8,000 times. I recommend you listen to no more that 4 bars in any one sitting.

No, I'm not kidding.

Haven't you done this thread before???

hehehe...

Things started to get steamy around here. :eusa_angel:

Feel like we do was awesome. Not being nit picky here but for me you'd have to break it down in categories.

But two just off the top of my head that I adore. Stevie Ray and oh I love this man to death Mr. and we're talking Mr. Steve Vai. Oh they both bring me to my knees.

And never ever forget Eddie. And OMG when you've witnessed Eddie live you have just gone to rock heaven.

For the life of me I can't get them to copy. Always remember my disclaimer that I'm typing from Fred Flinstones house.

If someone could be so kind as to put up the you tube of SRV and Crossfire.

Steve Vai and the Crossroads duel.

Eddie and Eruption.

See, it's not JUST the guitar part...when you listen deep into it, the instantaneous chemistry between drummer Vinnie Colaiuta and bass Arthur Barrow is beyond science fiction. You've heard "Foxy Lady" a billion times, you've never heard this once. Trust me, just listen for like 12 seconds at first, you won't be able to process more than that in a single sitting.

And it's 6 minutes long!!!!!!! It requires either big musical ears (I'm a tone deaf weasel) or the dedication to sit and listen and listen and listen and listen and listen to it. There are sweet, sweet section to it and when I relistened I did so with the intention of finding out "how the fuck did he get to THAT? What was he playing the instant before he came up with that?"

I also have the Steve Vai transcription, and if you're lucky I'll pdf and post the first page

yeah... he was great...

his attitude was even better...

can't find the quote, but on the subject of "best guitarist", FZ said sumpin' to the effect that folks are simply jerkin' off when they try to answer the question of "who's the best guitarist"...

Q: Do you personally think that you're under-rated as a guitarist?

Zappa: I think that I shouldn't be rated as a guitarist. Rating guitar players is a stupid hobby.

Q: You're a composer.

Zappa: I'm a composer and my instrument is the guitar. If you like the composition, fine - I mean, my technique as a guitar player is ... fair. There are plenty of people who play faster than I do, never hit a wrong note, and have a lovely sound, okay? If you want to rate guitar players - go for them. But there isn't anybody else who will take the chances that I will take with composition, live onstage in front of an audience - and just go out there and have the nerve, the ultimate audacity to say "Okay, I don't know what I'm gonna play, and you don't know what I'm gonna play, and that makes us equal so let's go, we'll have an adventure here." And, that's what I do. There's no way to rate that. You either like that kind of stuff or you don't.
