Bernie Sanders Says Internet Service Should be a Human Right

Since the internet is little more than a giant billboard for ads and a delivery vehicle for paid services it should at least be easily affordable to anyone who wants it.

It is already.
You misunderstand, with all the quality content either covered with ads or behind a paywall it should be practically free. Back in the old days when the internet was a hotbed of free information, quality porn and easy piracy I felt that I got something for my money.

I'm actually paying a cable company to NOT watch TV. That's ludicrous. And I want a YUGE refund.

I believe I have a human right to not be forced to pay to not watch television.

One of the most common complaints I hear is people complaining about is the service they get from their internet providers.

Be it cable or cell. From poor service to snotty employees. Human right? Whatever you want to call it, reform is needed.

Doing nothing is not an option. Something must be done. Congress must act now!

That's interesting. That must just be a local thing. I can't imagine being sent a bill if you are not going to sign up? That doesn't make sense.

I am thinking about cancelling my DVD sub. to Netflix and signing up to Amazon video Prime, they seem about the same price. .. but I have some ethical concerns and privacy concerns. lol

Not a ‘human right’ but Sanders has a reasonable point.

For example, the days of job seekers completing a paper application and having a face-to-face interview are long gone; everything is done online.

And relegating low-income job seekers to access the internet at libraries and employment offices isn’t feasible.

It’s perfectly appropriate to consider policies that will ensure all Americans have internet access.

Of course, Sanders is wrong about ‘breaking up’ large media and telecommunications giants, government regulation and involvement isn’t the answer and won’t address the problem of low-income Americans having internet access.

What’s needed is consensus and compromise absent partisanism and political ideology – which is why no solution will be forthcoming.
2 of the areas I work in are Uniondale and Hempstead, NY and everybody on welfare has a smart phone and hi-def TV.

If you don't like the service Internet Providers give ... don't buy Internet.

I'm pretty sure they still sell porn at the liquor stores.

"Yes, there will be plenty of locking up to go around," he said. "Trump first, absolutely. Then that Mike Pence fellow. Then Jeff Amazon and Elon SpaceX. Finally, we'll start throwing everyone who voices dissent or grumbles about lack of rations into the labor camps."

Sanders then led the crowd in a chant of "Lock them up! Lock them up!" referring to the hundreds of thousands who will die in the labor camps. Sanders then instructed the crowd to look to their left and right. "Of you and the two people next to you, only one won't be in a labor camp by this time next year."

There's no denying the power and usefulness of the internet. Is it vital and abundant to the point that we should see it as a human right?

Bernie Sanders Says Internet Service Should be a Human Right

Sanders wants to break up large media and telecommunications giants, force companies to make internet services more accessible to people with disabilities, and regulate broadband prices to ensure affordability. He says he will treat internet service as a human right.

Is he going to provide the devices for accessing the internet as well?

If he really believes it is a right, prolly means the modems.

High-speed internet isn’t a luxury good. It’s a utility, a human right, and the electricity of our time. It must not be in the hands of giant monopolistic corporations like Comcast and AT&T. Broadband for all!

^^^^spot on Basq^^^^

Bern is on the fiber trail again.

Vermont subsidized the entire state into HS fiber a while ago

They sold us this trickle down scenario of internet based prosperity, etc etc

Except nothing trickled down, yet all the server providers are fat & happy

In the grander scheme , subsidization (which is more a human blight than right) begs the issue of net neutrality

IE~ Do we have the 'right' to fair play on the 'internet billboard'?

I lived in a small town in Bilbao for five years (roughly 2010-2015) and the internet was *incredible.* I never lost power or internet for so much as an hour the entire time I lived there, and I used it a LOT.

How interesting! An economic analysis from a linguist.

Watch, “Who Fucked Up The Internet?” On Hulu. This will explain why this needed to happen years ago and you will realize how much America is once again getting fucked in another way.

Bernie is channeling his inner commie.

When you are giving people money, do you have hold their hands, take them to the store, and shop for them also?

:dunno:

I do not give people money.
So you don't pay taxes ?
