Bernie Sanders Says Internet Service Should be a Human Right

Since the internet is little more than a giant billboard for ads and a delivery vehicle for paid services it should at least be easily affordable to anyone who wants it.

It is already.
You misunderstand, with all the quality content either covered with ads or behind a paywall it should be practically free. Back in the old days when the internet was a hotbed of free information, quality porn and easy piracy I felt that I got something for my money.

I'm actually paying a cable company to NOT watch TV. That's ludicrous. And I want a YUGE refund.

I believe I have a human right to not be forced to pay to not watch television.

You're paying not to watch? That's real bright. I don't pay and I don't watch and haven't watched.

Again --- if I don't pay that ransom --- I don't get internet.

Seems to me that's racketeering.

Then you people will say that capitalism is disrupting access to the Internet.

I agree if they're forcing 5000 channels along with some wifi. Lol.

I would think any lawyer worth their salt would be able to put together a good suit.

In fact, if you can find a couple other folks that would prefer to put that couple bucks toward streaming? Seems like a class action case toward aggressive monopolistic practices.

"When I met John Weigel, a veteran, at a town hall a few months ago, he had $139,000 in medical debt and was contemplating taking his own life. Today we reconnected in Carson City. I am so happy that after working with his senators and our office, we were able to rectify his situation and he is doing much better.

As a nation we can disagree about a war, we can disagree about foreign policy. But when brave people like John put their lives on the line to defend our country, when they come home, they must receive the best quality health care this country can provide them." - Crazy Bernie

True, true.

I guess it all depends on whether the lawyers see gold or not.

There's a major national internet company in the general area -- I went to see them just to establish if we could have some modicum of competition since the present local yokels are so incompetent with their delivery, let alone the extortion. They tell me there's an imaginary line just up the road beyond which they can't go b/c the locals have that, some kind of backroom collusion. Yeah I'd love to smash that line, even if it's just to put the fear of god into the lazy phuques. Prolly time for another strongly worded letter to the FCC for what little good it will do.

One time internet was out for an extended period. I tried calling them for over an hour, couldn't get through. Drove all the way out there, a considerable distance, to find that their own phones were out too because they were VOIP on the same lines that were down, and had no idea why or how long it would be. Complete clown show.

You don't last long in Vermont without considerable insulation.

Why I remember enjoying a nice beautiful sunny day and looking at the thermometer to see that the temp was zero. But it wasn't windy at the time.

Point was already made in post 45 and reiterated twice since. We'll just wait for you to catch up with it.

Meanwhile one approves of your judicious use of diaeresis and accent aigu, so you at least have the writing part down.

So should God have given us an RJ-45 port or a builtin wireless adapter?

These stupid greedy uneducated low information Left Wing assholes think everything should be a human rights entitlement as long as somebody else pays for it.

From the article:

"In August, presidential candidate and senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) proposed spending $85 billion to expand high-speed internet access in rural America and other underserved communities. Senator and rival presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) thinks that's not enough. Friday, he offered his own $150 billion broadband plan that goes far beyond connecting rural communities to the internet.

Sanders wants to break up large media and telecommunications giants, force companies to make internet services more accessible to people with disabilities, and regulate broadband prices to ensure affordability. He says he will treat internet service as a human right."

I'm a Trump supporter and... I actually agree with that. More and more services and information are becoming accessible on the internet each year. Whether you're a patient in a hospital, paying bills, figuring out where to get your license renewed, shopping or looking at pictures of cats the internet is becoming a way of life just like heat and lights. Sanders isn't saying make it free, just make sure it's affordable. I'm sure I would disagree with Sanders on how to accomplish that. As Republicans know all to well, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

There's no denying the power and usefulness of the internet. Is it vital and abundant to the point that we should see it as a human right?

If you pay for the access it is a human right in your home. If you do not pay for the access you can use the public library, as I consider that to be your human right.

How come libtards never say sex is a human right? Consider the health benefits. Hookers on the public dime people, who's with me?

Salient point, but this company is a tiny gaggle of local yahoos, I don't think their pockets are that deep.
