Florida was pretty doggone racist when Thurgood Marshall
as a young NAACP Lawyer in the 40's. " Florida's orange industry was
booming and citrus barons got rich on the backs of cheap Jim Crow
labor ".And Sheriffs like Lake County's Willis V. McCall ruled his
county so dispicably it was never properly shown in theatres.
But was written about in :

Thurgood Marshall by the skin of his teeth barely escaped being
Lynched.He was driving at night all alone on a back road from the courthouse
where he was was given strange looks.He thought he might get
acosted right there in the courthouse since he was defending Blacks.
What they did was allow Marshall to drive down the road a ways
knowing there was a place that could be blocked by cars and force
Marshall to stop.Then they could force him out of the car since he
couldn't drive around them on the curb.But he lucked out and
sped up and scooted past the barricaded cars.
Somewhat similar to the movie - Out of the Furnace - { 2013 }
Where a bare knuckle fighter { Casey Affleck } gets beaten raw
but manages to hightale it out of cracker country { up in the hills
where inbred druggies " bare to the bone " } don't tolerate strangers.
Affleck being driven home never makes it past the county line.
The car { driven by fight manager Willem Dafoe } gets surrounded and stopped.
