Atheist 10 Commandments

Atheists write better commandments than God

God wasted half of his on.....You better worship me or else!

Perhaps. But commandments not followed are just words on paper.

It's all just words on paper.

The evolutionary point is to commit thoughts, hopes and dreams to media so that they can be transmitted down the Timeline. The evolutionary advantage is for your descendants to learn from your experiences and make a better world for themselves by learning from your mistakes as well as the successes.

Fortunately, Monkeys getting so stuck in the same set of books for close to 2,000 years seems to have enhanced our technological evolution even as it warped our emotional evolution. If we don't kill ourselves first, we'll probably make it to the stars a few generations ahead of schedule.

Monkeys will be the 'whipper-snappers' of the Sentient Universe.

Who issues commandants to atheists and what consequence is there for not following them? Who will adopt these commandments?
Consequences?

There have to be consequences for not doing the right thing? Atheists don't need the fear of consequences. They do the right thing because it's the right thing to do

so your so called commandments come with no consequence for breaking them. That makes them as much commandments as fish.

I can't help that you have no prohibition on murder, adultery, robbery, theft or lying. I think I'll stick with the ones that actually prohibit bad things
You don't understand.

There is no 'god' as perceived by theists, where religion and 'god' are creations of man. There is no omnipotent extra-terrestrial deity who issues edicts that all must obey, and no 'consequences' for transgressors visited upon them by an 'angry god.'

Therefore, all faiths, religions, moral codes, and values are man-made, one no 'better' than the other, as no particular religion or doctrine has a monopoly on morality and values.

So yes, the Atheist Ten Commandments is just as valid, just as appropriate, just as worthy of observance as any other religious dogma or moral code – because they're all creations of man.

ROFLMNAO!

So Atheists don't 'believe' in consequences... .

LOL! You can't make this crap up.

Isn't consequences the way you deal with small children? If you don't clean your room, you get no desert
If you don't worship our God, you will go to hell
Pretty much.

Wrong. But then you are a libtard, being wrong is your operating system.

2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.

4. Every person has the right to control of their body.

5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.

6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.

7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.

8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.

9. There is no one right way to live.

10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Only 10 commandments?

The secular federal US government writes about 40,000 new regulations and laws every year. The US also has the most jails in the world and the most prisoners.

It seems atheists are losing their war on immorality.

I don't think so. If people actually do learn from their mistakes then it is more than just words on paper, it is action. Ultimately, action is what matters. My own impression is the real purpose of the list in the OP is to demonstrate how much better Atheists are than Theists, and that impression has been supported by the various posts. I don't think that is true, but I also don't think they are any worse. As far as I can tell, there is no difference between an Atheist and a Theist. This too has been supported by the various posts in this thread.

BTW.... we're not monkeys. We're apes. No tails. You shouldn't insult the monkeys like that.

There are practically no Atheists (at least no admitted Atheists) in the federal government, or the state governments for that matter. You can't lay that problem on them. So, whether you mean to or not, you seem to being saying the Theists are on the other side of that war fighting for immorality.

That is where you are wrong. Those in government purport to believe in God, but then tear the Ten Commandments out of courtrooms, take down nativity scenes on public property, champion abortion, call up gay men and congratulate them for their coming out of the closet, forbid children from praying in schools etc.

They do this all in the name of the separation of church and state. So essentially we have laws devoid of God, so how is this different from an atheists approach? It's not.

The issue, whether you believe in God or not, is free will. People choose to do bad things. No matter if you are an atheists, we all see this, even though we may differ on what we deem to be "bad". For example, the liberal godless elite of today see sin differently, even though they dare not call it sin. Those that don't recycle are wrong doers, or how about those who drive SUV's? I know, God forbid you are a bigot. At that point you shouldn't even be allowed to have a job.

Now it's time for people like you to face some facts. The Federal government passes around 40,000 new laws and regulations a year, all of which have NOTHING to do with God. So why are the doing this? They are doing this because they think we eat too much, drink too much, live in houses that are too big, make too much money, don't give away our money to the poor like we should etc., etc., etc.

Every law on the books is based upon some sort of morality. Unfortunately, each law also restricts our freedoms. As laws increase, freedom wanes. There is no way around it, so we should then pass laws with great trepidation. Instead, they pass them every second of every hour, as if through such laws society will improve, society will change, society will become somehow moral, that is, the morality they are selling at that particular time.

Those of faith have their particular church of choice to help teach a moral code, granted, by in large most ignore it and adopt the morality of the state. That is their choice.

Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense

Atheists are a very small minority in this country. You must be referring to the Christians in this country who are filling our jails with petty drug offenders and keep us as one of the few civilized nations that still use the death penalty

As I said, laws should be passed with great trepidation. I think we can both agree that laws against murder are needed, even though it restricts our personal freedom.

The only question becomes, is it murder?

So atheists are soooo much better than theists? Really?

Try checking statistics on those who given their time and money to the poor. I'll give you two guesses on where atheists wind up on the list.

Those of faith give far more of the personal time and money to the poor as where atheists usually support government in forcing them to pay more money to the government so that they can take care of the poor for them.

Try investigating divorce rates as well. On the surface, it seems as if those of faith are no different than those who are not. However, if you check to see how devoted they are to their faith, whether they attend church regularly, you will see that those of faith fare far better than others.

Still not convinced? Those of faith tend to live longer and are happier, that is, those who attend church regularly.

So no, there are big differences.

Murder is a legal definition, so what is murder is determined by law. I asked if you would be in favor of removing all prohibitions on abortion, but perhaps that is not something you feel comfortable answering. I personally would be in favor of that as I don't think it is the job of the government to make those decisions for us.

Regulations dealing with God..... Well, assuming you are Christian, I refer you to Acts 20:35 "In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" So how are laws which require you to give to the poor not in keeping with that?

Murder is a legal definition? You mean like how they define it in Ferguson Missouri, or how about how they defined it in Nazi Germany, or how about how they define it in Iran?

Men can twist natural law, the law of God all they want, but at the end of the day it still remains.

So my question to you is, when does a human become human? Is it when the baby passes out of the birth canal and the birth fairy swings her magic wand to make it human?

No, I said there was no difference, not that they were better. Now, since there are far more Theists than Atheists, saying that Theists give more really doesn't tell the story. Can you support your claim on a per capita basis?

As to divorce rates, a quick google produced this:

Variation in divorce rates by religion:
Religion % have been divorced
Jews 30%
Born-again Christians 27%
Other Christians 24%
Atheists, Agnostics 21%
Life expectancy, the NIH study shows those who reported no religion to be on a par with evangelical Christians. If we are going to go by this, then Jews seem to indeed have the right take.

Behold atheists new Ten Commandments - CNN.com

1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.

2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.

3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.

Sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense

Atheists are a very small minority in this country. You must be referring to the Christians in this country who are filling our jails with petty drug offenders and keep us as one of the few civilized nations that still use the death penalty

You atheists are a trip. When discussing whether the US is based upon the Christian faith you shreek in horror yelling separation of church and state, but when it comes to the dysfunctional state of the union then all of a sudden we are a Christian nation again.

I don't agree. I'm sure most claim to be Christian, but that does not make them a Christian.

It is akin to Constantine subverting the faith. He adopted the new religion as his own, even though he did not convert. Then statists like himself used the religion for their own evil devices, such as inquisitions, world conquest, and the rest.

But for the sake of argument, let's say you are right. The morally bankrupt individuals in government are Christians. Do you prefer regimes like that of Stalin or Mao?

Ok. Let's examine that with a specific. Would you be in favor or removing all prohibitions on abortion?

As I said, laws should be passed with great trepidation. I think we can both agree that laws against murder are needed, even though it restricts our personal freedom.

The only question becomes, is it murder?

Yes, murder is a legal definition. Is a soldier in way guilty of murder if he kills?

A fetus is a stage of human development. It is human at conception. Now, at what point does my right to life give me a right to your body? I am, after all, human.

Do you not want to talk about laws based upon God now?

No, I said there was no difference, not that they were better. Now, since there are far more Theists than Atheists, saying that Theists give more really doesn't tell the story. Can you support your claim on a per capita basis?

Here is what I'm talking about.

Who Gives and Who Doesn t - ABC News

Of course, ABC news credits the fact that people give more to charity in Christian areas to the notion that they view government differently.

I could find other articles that show that religion is responsible, but I prefer this one because it reinforces the idea that Christians give more even though the article purposefully is trying to side track the issue.
